computer1: eth0 is WAN, DHCP; eht1 is LAN, Static.
computer2: eth1 is LAN, Static; eth0 was WAN, dhcp but there is no room on the switch...

the two computers are directly connected to each other.

so i need computer 2 to connect to the internet using computer 1.

the gentoo docs
the gentoo docs seem to indicate that this is possible, but they list it for a specific case. I tried to follow the iptables part and dnsmasq part. i switched the eth0 for eth1 and vice versa for all commands and confirmed no typos. then i edited computer 2's resolv.conf to set the nameserver to the ip of computer1.

the issues is that computer 2 can resolve names like www.google.com correctly, but cannot go to or ping them. for pinging, i get icmp_seq=x destination host unreachable. x is 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, or 8.

any help?[/code]

Post your iptables settings here. Also, can you show the output of
Code:
cat /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward

Regs.

Iain.
