Is there a Gentoo oriented how-to for Awstats? Or for that matter, where is the main listing of all the how-to's such as http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/qmail-howto.xml?
Sorry to ask a seemingly simple question, but I could not find it.

There is none, AFAIK. But it's not very complicated.

First -although it's not absolutely necessary- I suggest you get the newest ebuild, difffile and postinstall text from here:
https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=70996 , as it's the current stable version. Move the ebuild to net-www/awstats and the diffile + postinstall text file to net-www/awstats/files in your portage overlay directory (read http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Installing_3rd_Party_Ebuilds if you don't know how to use the overlay directory).

Then follow the instructions displayed after merging. They've been corrected and should now work.

EDIT: Well, they almost work; if using apache2, you also need to change the LogFile directive in /etc/awstats/awstats.<domain name here>.conf before running the update script.

while not difficult, I did run into some snags that needed mending when getting awstats to work, so I put together a mini howto of what was done:

https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=279860

I hope this might be of some use...

I am also having some problems with it, it keeps telling me this :

Code:

Not Found

The requested URL /awstats/awstats.pl was not found on this server.
Apache Server at -- Port 80

And it's correct, there is no awstats.pl in that directory. Even not when I've installed it with webapp-config. The file does reside in /cgi-bin but can't access it from their either.

Can we let sleeping threads lie and just stick to answering the other post https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-397338.html
