I am currently running and need to alter my kernel, so I was thinking about loading a cutting edge 2.5 kerle from kernel.org. Possibly linux-2.5.59.tar.gz. Is this something that will work ok with Gentoo? I have never done a kernel upgrade on gentoo yet as I haven't needed to.
I am running a 1.2 with an emerge world done last week(which should make it a 1.4 rc2).
uname -a = Linux redgang 2.4.19-gentoo-r9 #8 SMP Mon Sep 23 20:07:04 EDT 2002 i686 AMD Athlon(tm) XP 1700+ AuthenticAMD GNU/Linux
~1.3 gigs mem 120 gigs HD space.

You understand that the 2.5x series is under development and has many bugs? It will work with Gentoo but you'll likely run into a number of problems, most of which you should be able to work around.
Unless you're in this for the adventure or maybe to help out with some bug hunting I'd upgrade to 2.4.20. |
