My new AMD64 box has only been up and running for a short while, but when I finally get enough time to install Gentoo on it, I plan to go pure 64. _________________ Soluzar |

I emerged basc and updated my user into the stats group as it instructed, but when I try and run basc I get;
Code: |
bash-2.05b$ basc -h
You are not in the stats group! You have to be in the stats group to run basc!
bash-2.05b$ groups peterw
tty wheel audio video users portage stats
bash-2.05b$
|
Must be something simple. Any ideas. |

Couldn't log out and in because of some running applications. I entered and then basc worked fine. My system is in there now. |

just an idea:
Basc could be mentioned in gentoo instalation guide. So anyone installing gentoo would at least read about it.
Or would it be too much to expect from someone who 's dealing with instalation problems? |

Nearly tripled the count then... thought there had to be more than 77 of us... otherwise why were people bothering getting stuff working on the Athlon64 processors
I love 'em, even the one running windows 32bit... which I admit I use for work... the linux 64bit is just for fun!

That's the bottom line: fun. I've been fooling around with gentoo for over a month now. It does not matter that everything doesn't work right, I'll figure it out, especially with all the experience of others on these forums.
How many of us are trying to be pure 64 bit purists??? |

Well not pure 64bit, have some bits and pieces in a 32bit chroot personally... but maybe, just maybe, with the 2005.0 profile the chroot may be deleted... will see... fingers crossed!

Registered, though I noticed the silly thing grabbed the the wrong X config file. 236 registered Gentoo x86-64 systems for 17% of total.
That's not bad at all! We've got more amd64 users alone than every other architecture except i686 combined. Don't think that's going to change either, unless we get a massive influx of sparc users or something.
Processor-wise, gentoo's got more athlon64s than P4s, not even counting opterons and weirder amd64 flavors. Totalled up, amd64's are just a bit shy of the #1 popular gentoo microprocessor(Athlon XP). We're practically mainstream. wuzzerd wrote: | That's the bottom line: fun. I've been fooling around with gentoo for over a month now. It's nice to be on a forum where the standard response is 'look at this link' instead of 'stfu rtfm n00b'. It's also nice to be able to build your own damn kernel without the package manager pitching a fit. And fixing sourcecode bugs then seeing them in portage in the space of days is just the best. Quote: | How many of us are trying to be 64 bit purists??? | Purist? Don't see much point in militating about it, but it's nice to keep as much in native 64-bit as possible. After all we paid for those extra 32 bits, vastly expanded address space, nifty new registers and all the performance improvements they entail.
But there'll probably always be a few applications running 32-bit. Remember, though, that's a good thing -- we can, and that's another amd64 feature we paid money for. _________________ Petition for Better 64-bit ATI Drivers - Sign Here
