|
|
Hi.
I am thinking of installing gentoo on a laptop whitout any network connection.
Q1.
Do I have to run the "emerge rsync"?
Q2.
Can I just copy all the files from the /distfiles folder on the gentoo
server and then just mount the cd under the /distfiles folder on my system? will it work?
Q3.
Is there anything else I have to do to make it work?
Q4.
Is it worth the wait to do a stage 1 install on a P2 266mhz 64ram system?
please do not link to any other post cuz I have already read them..
I just want som straight answers please..
thanks for your time... |

No, you do not.

You can copy all the files to the /usr/portage/distfiles or mount them there, that is up to you
The system will look there before it tries to download them...

All files you want to emerge has to be in that directory, including sysklogd, gentoolkit, the lot...

Except for that, no, not that I can recall... _________________ Always make it as simple as possible, but no simpler

While you don't have to emerge rsync, you do need to get a snapshot of the portage tree (different from distfiles) and all the necessary distfiles (as mentioned already). _________________ Chad |
