Kernel Panic => unable to open an initial console

Hello,

I'm trying to install Gentoo on my computer.
I used genkernel to build my kernel.
When I reboot I have to following message from the kernel :

Warning : unable to open an initial console
Kernel panic - not syncing : No init found
Try passing init = option to kernel

Does anybody have any ideas about this error ?
Why the kernel is not able to open a console ??
