Hi guys, wonder if you can help me?
I have emerge the whole e17 from cvs successfully, and it does look really nice.
However, I seem to be missing some essential files.
trying to run anything like entice or erss gives me the result:
ERROR: can't find plugin (default)
ERROR: using default layout plugin
ERROR: can't find plugin (default)
ERROR: can't load default plugin
Segmentation fault
Obviously, there's a plugin missing somewhere!
Can someone tell me if I've missed emerging a module somewhere and what should I do to fix it?
Thanks! |

Does the E17 windowmanager itself still work? It seems like there has been alot of changes in the EFL lately, it could be that some apps are broken right now. _________________ Interested in E17? Get Enlightened by reading the user guide. |

nudd,
if you just want to be able to use those programs, grab the latest ~x86 ebuilds (not the -* builds), just put in fresh last night -- possibly cleanups as a result of the recent e17 mini-freeze. While there isn't one for e17 itself, there should be one for most of the libraries and apps, including entice. _________________ My Last.fm profile | get e17! |

Ok, I'll do as you advise, but it was just so promising that everything compiled without a hitch! I was hoping that it would _just_ _work_ (tm).
Anyway, if the ebuilds were really just sync'ed last night, it would be in the same state as my cvs build wouldn't it?
vrin: windowmanager works, but seems like apps kind find the plugin to tell them how to lay themselves out. I guess it somesort of forms type or theme type layout system? Maybe similar to XFORMS or something like that. |

I strictly changed nothing to my system. Don't even rebooted.
From what I see it's looking for `usr/lib/libGLU.la' and not `/usr/lib/libGLU.la'
Any bug ( typo) in the cvs sources ?
Anyone noticed this ? |
This problem turns out to be a problem with the latest xorg-x11 (6.8.2). In /usr/lib/libGLU.la the last line is but should be wich means that the dependency_libs line in files such as libewl.la will contain instead of .
Update: later versions (later the same day as the first 6.8.2 ebuild appeared) should have fixed this.

OK, I emerged from the ~amd64 using the latest snapshots rather than direct from cvs and I'm still getting the same problem.
It can't find the default layout as described above.
Anyway it still looks great, but it does mean that I simply can't use any e apps! |

yeah, I saw that. Raster posted it early this morning, and i caught it browsing edevelop.org. I'm going to see if this background is actualized in cvs in a few days when I update (I make it a point to not overload the servers with my cvs updates, as I haven't done any contributing to the project, so i don't feel I have a right to drain their resources). He's referring, i think, to a previous story posted on slashdot...at the time I remember reading the article and thinking "uh...so...they want to turn gnome into enlightenment (again) ?". Raster's right...all bragging aside, I think e17 is (shaping up to be) everything I've been waiting for it to become -- and it's actually here and happening now. ::glee:: _________________ My Last.fm profile | get e17! |

The last line in my /usr/lib/libGLU.la does read libdir='/usr/lib'. I'm still getting this same error message with the latest version of engrave. |

Agreed. There's so much talk about all kinds of cairo/glitz/future xorg stuff, and then there's actually E17/EFL right now in a fully working (of course not in a release-ready yet) state. The background is on his website already, you can load it with a simple enlightenment_remove -bg-set /path/to/file.eet - it's very CPU intensive though since it's completely done with software. Someday when ogl rendering is stable for the wm itself, this will rock.
get the animated background .eet here:

If I understand correctly, a new ebuild was released, but there was no version bump - it's still 6.8.2... just remerge it and any offending libs (ie. evas, etc) and that should fix it - did for me anyway...
Use the command from here to find the affected lib files:
