This is the first time I tried love src instead vanilla + reiser4 + small patches, and it feels smoother but it certainly takes much more time to boot and it crashes a lot (always oops in genetic). Yesterday I've an oops right after ls /dev, does anyone else have similar problems?
back to vanilla 2.6.10 now

without oops text I don`t know where the problem can be.
If You are using genetic lib 0.3 from this version of love , You can update it to 0.4 - some poeple reported that with 0.4 version is no genetic oops. Many of people also don`t have any also with 0.3
You can try also different IO Scheduler than genetic-anticipatory

If You mean IO Scheduler then yes :
for example via : Code: |
Enterprise queue # cd /sys/block/hda/queue
Enterprise queue # cat scheduler
noop anticipatory deadline [cfq]
Enterprise queue # echo deadline > scheduler
Enterprise queue # cat scheduler
noop anticipatory [deadline] cfq |
or with nice Genn scirpt who is in love_src directory and is called Code: | scheduler_change_script |
with this scirpt I have this menu for ex. Code: |
1 - noop
2 - [anticipatory]
3 - deadline
4 - cfq
Please type the number corresponding the scheduler you wish to use. |
If You mean CPU Scheduler that is only one way to do it now - the P.Williams Hydra Scheduler.

in the middle of time :

Linus Torvalds about rc5 wrote: |
Hey, I hoped -rc4 was the last one, but we had some laptop resource
conflicts, various ppc TLB flush issues, some possible stack overflows in
networking and a number of other details warranting a quick -rc5 before
the final 2.6.11.
This time it's really supposed to be a quickie, so people who can, please
check it out, and we'll make the real 2.6.11 asap.
Mostly pretty small changes (the largest is a new SATA driver that crept
in, our bad). But worth another quick round. |
even rc4-to-rc5 diff is very small
so I think is better to keep work on the stuff work next release. I made a small update only from 2.6.11-rc4-love1 to rc5 based on previous updates.
the list : Code: |
/ aplly on top of 2.6.11-rc4-love1 //
2.6.11-rc4-bk2 >> 2.6.11-rc5-bk0
genetic lib , anticipatory , io sched from 0.3 to 0.4
reverse of mm`s bk-xfs
reverse of mm`s bk-usb (to avoid possible oops)
setting genetic lib & anticipatory OFF as default ( to avoid propably problems with genetic as)
bk-alsa from alsa-project.org
it-821x.diff ( replacing mm`s patch a gentoo-dev patch ) |

Will-do
Just thought of something - wandering around /proc saw the "genetics" directory that holds the info on the seeds of the genetic algoth for tuning you system.
So rather than all these "benchmarks" tests flying around (be they good, bad or irrelevant) I was thinking more along the lines of how hard teh genetics tune your system.
via a BASH script (mybe in conjuction with CRON) get it to log certain kernel peramenters that the genetics manipulate - say log once a minute
Now stary your system and start the logging.
leave the system for 20min (for the seeds to settle) - this provides the base-line for your system
start a emerge sync
once sync has finished leave again for 20min - the values should return to your base-line system settings as to the first tests
re-emerge say "gcc" something that is big enought to download that will give the algorth time to adapt and also big enough for compiling to take a decent amount of time
once finished again leave for 20min
play something like UT2k4 for 20/30min
leave for 20min.
once all that is done, plot the data out in OO:Calc or liekwise to see how hard the algorithm is changing the system?
so the question would be what would be good veriables (in /proc) should be monitored? _________________

mmm I seem to be having a problem with this kernel and GnomeBaker and graveman w.r.t. burning CD
Both work fine under 2.6.10-r4 (my stable kernel)
I get this:
Code: |
cdrecord: Warning: Running on Linux-2.6.11-rc4-love1
cdrecord: There are unsettled issues with Linux-2.5 and newer.
cdrecord: If you have unexpected problems, please try Linux-2.4 or Solaris.
cdrecord: Success. read toc: scsi sendcmd: no error

Sense flags: Blk 0 (not valid)

]
|
The warning about 2.5 or newer I get in the other kernel but it still works? _________________

This is strange, my box is way stabler after the last oops
Code: |
$ uptime
19:14:33 up 21:38, 6 users, load average: 0.00, 0.04, 0.01
|
I have tried to stress this kernel and regenerate a oops, but till now, it is still running.

I hope without any oops in the future
@Naib: the graveman and k3b working nice for me . I tested cd burning as root.
and about genetics . now it`s only in the as-scheduler. so it`s not hardly going to change the system
Only IO operations . The best tuned cpu scheduler is P.Williams Zaphod now , but it has issues with interactivity . I`m working on small genetic implementation to the NikcSched so in next release will be more genetic stuff to test
teutzz wrote: | @fallow: could you please include kexec in future releases? i would very much appreciate it | I had strange problems with kexec in the past. so I added it via USE flag in vivid. My machine oopses with HALT .
but OK - - I`ll try to add it and to see - If all will be ok and some other people said that is ok - then will be in next release:)

just had a lockup this morning -- literally seconds after I left it to go to school.
Uptime was since my post above to 7:20 AM CSTCD6 time zone this morning Feb 28th.
I was wondering why I couldnt ssh to my box from school today! hehe
No logs or anything. Just total hard lockup.
Running Anticipatory / Genetic. Was running real nice!
Possible culprit: kernel or Xorg 6.82?
Anyone else have anything?
Nforce 2 mobo (never had problems like people report) though I am explicitly NOT running the Local APIC that is available on my box due to its instabliity on Windows XP (which sometimes I have to boot into... but rarely... and I dont want to deal with that problem if I NEED xp for some stupid reason)
Anyone else experiecne this? Otherwise I'm gonna blame it on Xorg.

I'd like to see a new version of the madwifi drivers, because my card doesn't work with the snapshot included in love, but should work with the current cvs .. I tried to build it via the ebuilds, but got a HAL ABI mismatch when loading ath_pci ;/
So i'm stuck with ndiswrapper :/
Thanks |

Good request...I'd like to test this kernel using "orinoco monitor patch mode" (usually orinoco included in kernel but monitor mode patch not included).
So please...patch it on next kernel for monitor mode and I am willing to test it ... |
