|

I've emerged kde3.3 and it runs fine under root, and I've had it running okay in my normal account. However, whenever I log into my normal user account I get kde3.2. The XSESSION variable is set thusly:
Code: |
XSESSION="kde-3.3.2"
|
So no joy there.
Selected highlights from ls -al ~
Code: |
bash-2.05b$ ls -al ~
...
lrwxrwxrwx 1 stephen users 7 Feb 28 01:17 .kde -> .kde3.2
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 7 Feb 28 01:13 .kde.backup -> .kde3.3
drwxr-xr-x 4 stephen users 448 Feb 28 01:01 .kde3.2
drwxr-xr-x 4 stephen users 448 Feb 28 01:17 .kde3.3
|
Aha! Just change the symbolic link. So I do that, kill the x-server, log back in and get kde3.2 again.
On reinspection of ls -al ~ , something has reset my symbolic link to point back to kde3.2. What could be doing this? |

Ok do you use KDM?
With KDM there is an option to change what version you use under session type.
Or do you start KDE like so?
Code: | xinit /usr/kde/3.2/bin/startkde |
Try changing the folder.
Code: | xinit /usr/kde/3.3/bin/startkde |
or are you using?
For startx try just
see if it picks up the new version. _________________ Live every day like it's your last ......

How very embarassing...I was convinced kdm wasn't letting me change the session type but either the button that lets you do this has reappeared for some reason or I completely missed it in the first place. I recently changed to a dual monitor config and the login screen sits half on one screen and half on the other, partially hiding/disguising the button - let's all pretend this exonerates my stupidity/blindness.
My session type was hard-set in KDM to kde3.2.2 :0( |
