Does he use Nitro-sources? Nitro-sources and IPW2200 doesn't work anymore
As in my thread, I have reverted back to 2.6.11-rc4love1 and the wireless works fine. It just so happens that rc4love1 does not have the swspd2 patch. Yes, I tried the Nitro sources before and wireless did not work. Could it be that the fact that swspd2 is patched into the kernel is causing the problem even though it is not actually compiled into the kernel? I don't know, but obviously there is a patch that my wireless (ipw2200) does not like. |

Anyone have any other ideas.

i think your ipw2200 problem is related to 2.6.11 specifically because I my room mate has the same prob with a different patchset based on 2.6.11 |

You have to build swsusp2 into the kernel (not as module!), and then emerge ipw2200. This is the only way to make ipw2200 build with such a patchset (it's the same with nitro-sources).
I am just testing this love-source release (it's been quite a while, since I was on love the last time), so far everything is working just fine. My main reason for coming back to love, is fallow's genetic nicksched implementation, since it is supposed to be the better solution for Reiser4, than staircase.
Can anyone confirm, that genetic nicksched + deadline is the best combo for use with Reiser4? _________________ Las torturas mentales de la CIA |

So you use genetic nicksched + genetic as on Reiser4?
Did you try dealine as i/o sched instead as well?
From what I've read so far, genetic nicksched + genetic as should be quite unstable, resulting in random hardlocks on heavy i/o use.
That's why I decided to go for genetic nicksched + deadline. _________________ Las torturas mentales de la CIA |

[my opinion]
I`m using genetic nicksched with deadline , for me it`s best combination for r4 at now so I`m using it.
I`ve tested alot genetic anticipatory on my box ( not any oops ) , but I prefer deadline better.
Deadline can provide me best speed with copying many of small files . Anticipatory better linear transfer but this is less important for me. Nicksched is playing best for me with r4 at the moment .
[/my opinion]

BTW This is something strange, that came up with 2.6.11 in my system-log:
----- dmesg -----
Allocating PCI resources starting at 80000000 (gap: 80000000:7f800000)
Built 1 zonelists
Kernel command line: ro root=/dev/hda3 video=vesafb:ywrap, mtrr, pmipal
__iounmap: bad address c00fffd9
Local APIC disabled by BIOS -- you can enable it with "lapic"
mapped APIC to ffffd000 (02005000)
Initializing CPU#0
----- dmesg -----
This is not causing any problems. It was not there with 2.6.10, and I first discovered that output with one of the 2.6.11-rc versions of nitro-sources.
Any idea, what this could be? _________________ Las torturas mentales de la CIA |

Thanks for your help. My ipw2200 wireless works now with the 2.6.11-love1 kernel w/ swsusp2 compiled into the kernel. That did the trick.

Hi fallow,
You should keep the patches from 2.6.11-rc4-love1 about hostap thingy :
Quote: |
2.6.11-rc4-love1:
Shared driver code for IEEE 802.11b wireless cards based on
Intersil Prism2/2.5/3 chipset. This driver supports so called
Host AP mode that allows the card to act as an IEEE 802.11
access point.
|
And madwifi...too..that would be nice ..thanks , I love 2.6.11-rc4-love1, if you can keep that patches for wireless needs on the 2.6.11 the stable one, that'll be fantastic.
danke |

Congrats on this kernel! This is the most responsive desktop kernel I have ever used. It smokes your other love kernels, and even nitro.
I am using all genetic options as default and everything loads faster. It is definately not placebo effect. Gnome loaded in about 3 seconds.
Now I am off to put this kernel to a real test, my java programming that takes up 700MB of cache and ram.
thanx!
edit: even my internet browsing is faster! no joke. But, my java IDE did take longer to load than before. about 6 seconds longer. but now that it is up and running, it's definately faster in execution. I guess i'll have some tradeoff's with this scheduler.
EDIT again!: OMG, gimp loaded in less than one second from a cold boot! I didn't even see the loading screen (even though it is enabled). My older love/nitro sources took at least 3 seconds. Amazing. I will be keeping this kernel for a while. |

Did anyone else notice skipping sound with this kernel?
I am currently using genetic nicksched with cfq.
I've been using ck-sources and/or nitro for a while now, but remeber that this did not happen with earlier love-sources for me.
BTW: Is it possible to look into the results of the genetic |

Hey,
Just tried compiling 2.6.11-love1 on amd64.
I received an error:
CC arch/x86_64/pci/../../i386/pci/acpi.o
CC arch/x86_64/pci/../../i386/pci/common.o
CC arch/x86_64/pci/../../i386/pci/direct.o
arch/x86_64/pci/../../i386/pci/direct.c:7:32: mach_pci_blacklist.h: Onbekend bestand of map
arch/x86_64/pci/../../i386/pci/direct.c: In function `pci_conf1_read':
arch/x86_64/pci/../../i386/pci/direct.c:24: let op: impliciete declaratie van functie `mach_pci_is_blacklisted'
make[1]: *** [arch/x86_64/pci/../../i386/pci/direct.o] Fout 1
make: *** [arch/x86_64/pci] Fout 2
I didn't find anything on the forums or google about mach_pci_blacklist.
Compilation of the gentoo-dev-sources (2.6.11-r2) does work with the same config...
Any ideas? |

to be honest, i had a hardlock while gaming when I was on Deadline. Since I've switched to Genetic AS its working quite nice. To each, his own I guess

hey
about mach_pci_blacklist.h error on x86_64 :
try this patch http://vivid.dat.pl/fallow/pub/love-sources/2.6.11-love1/amd64_f1.diff
(I don`t have x86_64 for testing but I think we can rem call of mach_black* from direct.c)
or Try first Ahorn`s method 2) Code: | cp /usr/src/linux-2.6.11-love1/include/asm-i386/mach-default/mach_pci_blacklist.h /usr/src/linux/arch/i386/pci/
| and You can propably have tp also deacivate /proc/mm (SKAS) from love-features menu propably .
@HecHacker1,@rm: really thanks

yeap Code: |
Enterprise ~ # cd /proc/genetic
Enterprise genetic # ls
as-ioscheduler nick-sched

I making some update will be ready soon

Personally I don`t have any x86_64 & don`t have possibility to testing.
what problems ? -> we`re not a wizzards
if it`s mach_pci_blacklist.h error .
Have You tried this : http://vivid.dat.pl/fallow/pub/love-sources/2.6.11-love1/amd64_f1.diff
We are decided to not include supermount because many of security issues with them.
Is many of better solution for automatic media changing than supermount.

This one is pretty hacky....
As far as i remember from doing nitro, the proper fix is including a header from mach-default in the arch subdir....
sorry i dont have a patch, i thought the one liner isnt worth a patch....
