I recall that it was recommended to turn off the "preemtible kernel" option in the kernel config if you were running a 2.6 kernel. If I remember correctly it was claimed that this actually slowed down a few things.
How well is it working nowadays? Im on the latest gentoo-dev 2.6 kernel. Is it currently stable? |

Stable on x86, not stable on ppc. It causes random segfaults on ppc.
Aside of that, i disabled it since i didn't notice any difference at all when it was enabled. (well, i also had the impression that things seemed a bit slower when it was enabled, but that was just that: an impression) |

I could have sworn that I read somewhere on the forums that it was recommended to deactivate that option in a 2.6 kernel. |
