That's actually the official answer, belive it or not. The thing is, because the packages on your computer are constantly updated through portage, a new release is not as big a deal for gentoo users as it is for users of other distros.

Yup. The only real advantage a newer LiveCD offers is better hardware support (usually) and newer prebuilt packages (if you plan on using stage3/GRP).
