After merging the latest NVIDIA drivers through an

emerge --deep --update world

I received the following error when typing startx:

Error: API mismatch: the NVIDIA kernel module is version 7.1.0, but
this X module is version 1.0.7167. Please be sure that your kernel
module and all NVIDIA driver files have the same driver version.

Is anyone else seeing this, and does anyone know how to fix it?

Are your nvidia-glx and nvidia-kernel versions the same?

Indeed they are:

* media-video/nvidia-glx
Latest version available: 1.0.7167-r1
Latest version installed: 1.0.7167-r1
Size of downloaded files: 17,711 kB
Homepage: http://www.nvidia.com/
Description: NVIDIA X11 driver and GLX libraries
License: NVIDIA

* media-video/nvidia-kernel
Latest version available: 1.0.7167-r1
Latest version installed: 1.0.7167-r1
Size of downloaded files: 17,711 kB
Homepage: http://www.nvidia.com/
Description: Linux kernel module for the NVIDIA X11 driver
License: NVIDIA

This is what truly baffles me. Perhaps some error or another has occurred in the module build...

Have you removed your old module with modprobe -r or rebooted?
