The mouse functioned just fine though. I could select options and the program would respond appropriately when I clicked on stuff. Only it wouldn't take any keyboard input. Also, how come the cinematic runs like arse? |

If it worked then why didn't you just?:
(computer icon) -> Video -> window mode -> apply
or
(computer icon) -> exit game
As for the cinematic, I havent noticed that - but then im trying to play the game, not watch the intro
but depending on what format the intro is in ( bink / dvix / ... ) i'd look into configuring that properly |

Because just to test if stuff worked I clicked on cinematic , but then got stuck in it with it running like arse and not being able to exit out of it without rebooting. |

I'm fairly a newb, but could anyone provide help on this? I don't use Gentoo but I'm sure whatever advice you provide will work on Fedora Core 3. |
Well, this is what happened to me:
When you use the "tool-thing", U run these commands from inside it:
./configure
make depend
make
make install (as su)
and also run the command "wine" as user (creating the .wine directory and config file)
Read the readme, and do it by hand!
when you have done "./configure --with_opengl"
you will get a long list of "checks".
somewhere above middle you will have these lines:
checking GL/gl.h usability... yes
checking GL/gl.h presence... yes
checking for GL/gl.h... yes
checking GL/glx.h usability... yes
checking GL/glx.h presence... yes
checking for GL/glx.h... yes
checking for GL/glext.h... yes
checking for up-to-date OpenGL version... yes
checking for glXCreateContext in -lGL... yes
checking for gluLookAt in -lGLU... yes
checking for glutMainLoop in -lglut... yes
if any of these are checked with "no" then U dont have the right packages installed.
What happends if you run the "tool-installation", without having all required rpm:s installed, is that wine will be installed, but withouot opengl support!
I needed these packages:
xorg-x11-devel
freeglut-devel
and also an "fglrx-devel" package (Only for ATI cards!, since its devel package for ATI)
I had to downgrade my fglrx drivers to an earlier version to make the game playable!
Need more help? PM me! |

Gentoo people don't need to worry about -devel packages. They get installed automatically when you install the relevant package. _________________ There is no substitute for experience.

Mine's running rather kickass under Cedega 4.3, opengl and all. I installed the latest Wine but didn't test it out yet.... _________________ RYZEN 5 3600 Matisse (Zen 2) 6-Core 3.6 GHz Socket AM4 65W

Just updated the first post again. I can't believe that I deleted the INSTALL section on my last update. Maybe I'll just go kill myself now to save you all the trouble later...
Anyway, please let me know if there's anything else that should be added to the first post. This thread IS, after all, the definitive howto for installing WoW on linux .

In Cedega 4.3, you dont' need to worry about OpenGL problems anymore. Minimap works great _________________ Sysadmin of Ubuntu systems and servers....

Update: now running Cedega 4.3 with latest ATI drivers on direct3d, running great, no sound corruption.
Sound corruption was fixed by choosing this in config:
Code: |
[Wineserver]
"SHMWineserver" = "Y"
[WinMM]
"Drivers" = "wineoss.drv"
"WaveMapper" = "msacm.drv"
"MidiMapper" = "midimap.drv"
[wineoss]
"UseMMap" = "Y"
"FullDuplex" = "Y"
;; Specify a mapping for what digital audio devices to use
;"dsp0" = "/dev/dsp0"
;"mixer0" = "/dev/mixer0"
|
Random crashouts for apparently no reason at all sometimes, but they're clean crashes, which leads me to believe that the game is receiving a quit signal. *shrugs. Oh yeah, wine cvs build will crash on direct3d, and run with heavy video corruption on opengl.
Seems like for me at least, cedega 4.3 is the way to go. _________________ AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4400+ AuthenticAMD GNU/Linux 2x2.2 ghz

xevix: Regular wine works perfectly for me in opengl mode. I'd say it fails for you due to your ati card. Good to get another confirmation that cedega 4.3 works though. _________________ There is no substitute for experience.

Tried a later CVS build, and now there's a bit less corruption, but it's still nowhere near fully playable. Yeah, probably is due to having an ATI card... even though on cedega 4.3 with direct3d it runs like a charm... _________________ AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4400+ AuthenticAMD GNU/Linux 2x2.2 ghz

I got the "disconnected from server" 3 times last night within a 2 hour period. I'm on Stormreaver though (very high population) so I'm not sure if it's from Cedega or if it would have happened anyway. Going to give Wine a shot tonight. _________________ RYZEN 5 3600 Matisse (Zen 2) 6-Core 3.6 GHz Socket AM4 65W

Ok, I'm having problems here.
I've spent the better part of a week installing and configuring gentoo. I got the radeon drivers to work on my 2.4.26 kernel. I run XOrg 6.8.2. I can run ET and Tribes 2 fine nativly, and I can run for example the notepad.exe that comes with wine, but I can't run any games. I had Windows XP until recently, but all the games I play are supposidly supported by cedega, so I switched. I've been using linux off and on for a few years now, but I still suck
I have cvscedega. That's pretty new, couple days at most, and wine20050310.
When I try to run WoW in wine "wine WoW.exe -opengl" it tells me:
Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x1008021f at address 0x2af5d207.
D you want to debug it?
[Yes] [No]
When I click Yes, this comes out in the console.

no, and if that works, I'll slap myself for you, ok?
/me recompiles
The correct way is to do 'USE="opengl" emerge wine' rite?
:edit:
If that was the rite way, it didn't work. Also, I'm dot using the devel ati drivers, could that be it? |

I've now moved to an A64/Abit AN8/PCI-E GF6600GT system, and the improvement is phenomenal. x86 install (was scared off amd64 by the possibly incompatability of a lot of the stuff I use), gentoo-dev-sources 2.6.11-r4, X.org 6.8.2-r1, the 7167 nVidia drivers and manual CVS build of wine.
No sound/graphics corruption under -opengl, D3D mode of course does not work under wine. |

Hi,
I'm trying to install WoW using Wine (Wine 20040813).
And when the first CD is installed, it asks me to insert the second cd.
I do that (umount cdrom, insert, mount cdrom) and click "OK".
Then nothing happens and the window just reappears with "Please insert the CD labeled "World of Warcraft Disc 2".
Any idea what's wrong?
I could update my wine, but it will cause me alot of trouble because I'm on an amd64. _________________ Tuinslak |

Some observations i have made comparing Cedega 4.3 to Wine 20050310
Wine:
- Distorted sound
- graphics looked a bit washed out
- horrible cinematic performance
- somewhat low fps
Cedega:
- the odd slowdown (should be because of Cosmos)
- fps is fine, but there are many hiccups even on low quality near large bodies of water
(Cedega using directX mode by the way) _________________ Check out my awesome blog! (The Best Blog Ever)
