Posted: Sat Mar 26, 2005 10:31 am Post subject: [OT] Best Italian ADSL service provider (Milano area) |
|
|
Hello guys (and girls)
I'm going to be living in Italy the next 4 months as an exchange student in the city of Ispra, and I simply *must* have some form of ADSL or broadband connection.
I have a small apartment with a normal telephone plug, so there should be no problem in getting ADSL i think...
Can somebody recomend a good Italian service provicer?
I have been looking at ARUBA, they offer a 1280/256 ADSL connection for 29 pr. month, a Zyxel Prestige 630 USB modem for 42,50 or a Zyxel Prestige 650 router for 125 (all prices + IVA)
Is that a good deal? and are there other perhaps better providers in northern Italy?
Best regards / ciao
Anders |

Hi Anders... well aruba it's everything but reliable... Instead McLink and NGI are IMHO the cuttin' edge in quality of service & customer care. These are are the best ISP here in italy. Obviously check if you can make a contract fpr only 4 months, and check if there's band guaranteed.

Hi,
Abuba base offer's is not 29 euros but 29 euros +IVA(20%) == ~ 36 euros.
The times for italian adsl activations can be (usually) from 10 days to 1 month.
At least READ THE ON-LINE CONTRACT before. |

I've got aruba's ADSL for 2 years. That was slow and the tech support is bad (my line goes down for an entire month before they fixed the problem). NGI is one of the best.
Alice is also great since it is of the main provider in italy (telecom italia)
Sorry for my English

Con Tele2 sinceramente mi trovo bene, 1280/256 a 28,95 al mese, solo che bisogna avere tele2 come operatore. _________________ If the human brain were so simple that we could understand it, we would be so simple we couldn't. |

many thanks for the input!
I think i might chose NGI but i have to check the other suggestions out some more...
Is it normal that you have to buy the modem / router your self? In denmark that is normaly lent out by the provider at no cost, and has to be returned when you cancel the subscribtion.
Also I have not been able to find any information on the minimum running period for the subscribtion for any of the providers, does anybody know if there is one? at NGI or example ? As deadhead pointed out, I will only be able to use it for 4 months and I would prefer not to pay for 1 whole year! ![Smile :)](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |

unluckly, our providers don't lend the modem (or router) for free.
and the minimun running period is 1 year ![Sad :(](images/smiles/icon_sad.gif) _________________ Guru Meditation |

Usually you can rent a modem from your ISP, but you have to pay pay a little fee monthly.
As neryo said, I think the minimun amount of time is the year for the ADSL contracts... Maybe it's better for you to mail to the ISP asking them if it's possible, or asking them a solution... As many told you, the Customer Care it's not the best aspect of our isp, except for NGI and McLink [at least that's my experience ]. I don't know what's your tipical use of the network, but you can check if it's convenient for you a per-use contract, intead of an always on contract. _________________ Proudly member of the Gentoo Documentation Project: the Italian Conspiracy ! |

u can also plan to activate fastweb only for 4 months... have a check because doesn't cover all italy not cheap but if u are lucky you can touch 10Mb/sec (optical fiber) otherwise 4 Mb/sec (adsl).
tin.it & other isp like ngi etc...don't permit to change the profile (if u choose adsl flat remains 1 year adsl flat...and so on). Only Alice (telecom) and maybe few others permit switching from adsl flat to other profiles...
...or better...install a wi-fi with neighbour ![Wink ;)](images/smiles/icon_wink.gif) |

I confirm usually italian contracts are 1 year.
In the past aruba sold contracts for 3/4 months, now i do not know.
If is possible fgastweb is a good choice also much expensive.
Bye: my little daughter request me. |
