How to start from scratch in gconf?
I have a majorly fucked up gconf throughout my system. I have no idea what the cause is, so I would like to start from scratch.
I tried deleting /etc/gconf, but that obviously didn't work. I tried gconf 2.8 and 2.10, both fail.
The errors I get with, let's say Gnome-system-monitor, are:
Code: | $ gnome-system-monitor

ok ok ok, i do not have any of those pixmaps either. The best way to fix this is to stop running which ever program is giving you the error _________________ https://otw20.com/ OTW20 The new place for off the wall chat |

That would be... gconf.

Although Cokehabit and me had our fun, the thread was intended to be serious.

I think that it may be possible to get those pixmaps off someone else to sort out the problem but as i said, i cant see them on my box.
That is why i suggested a reinstall of gnome _________________ https://otw20.com/ OTW20 The new place for off the wall chat |

Wouldn't this sort of thing be part of your gnome configuration, and be kept in ~/.gnome2? _________________ No-one's more important than the earthworm. |

Hi,
when I had a problem with gconf, I deleted ~/.gconf* and it worked, however you'll lose your custom configurations

As stated before, my gconf problem is systemwide, not user sprecific.
Deleting ~/.gconf, or ~/.gnome or whatever, doesn't help a thing. |

Well, what is with those files that can't be opened? These files should be there (not so sure about the directory 'other', though: I don't have it).
Do these files exist? If yes, what's with their permissions? (and with the permissions of the directories they're in) |

These warnings claim the icons in /usr/share/pixmaps don't exist. Do they exist?
Edit: Okay, sorry, just checked my own system - same situation... now I feel stupid. |

I get the same errors when I run gnome-system-monitor. It has no negative effect
on my system though. Is there anything that's not working with your system? |

Can you post error messages that other programs give you? |
