Hi Guys,
I'm writing my degree's thesis, and every time I need to search an article I need to go at the university, because the service that I need use an authentication based on the computer IP.
At the university I have a Pc with Win2000.
Is it possible to access to internet from home, through the internet connection of the computer at the university?
Thanks in advance

If you can connect directly to your PC at the Uni (ie. it's directly on the internet and not behind a firewall) then you could use VNC.

Hi,
I'm back to the Uni, and I'm trying something!
The problem is that from the pc at the Uni I can connect to my home pc, but I can't do the inverse (Home->Uni). With a nmap scan I discovered that all the port are filtered from the outside to the uni!
Is it possible to set the computer at university connect to my pc with ssh,or similar, every time it is started?
And then use this connection for surfing the web?
Many thanks

1. Install a web proxy on your uni computer. Find a small simple one, Squid would probably be overkill for this ...
2. Read the manpage for SSH and pay attention to the "-R" option. This will allow you to foward proxy port on uni side to a port on the remote side.
3. Generate key/public key on SSH remote side and copy the public key to your Uni PC so that passwords are not needed.
3. Write a bash script with your new SSH knowledge putting your ssh command in a loop so that it will reconnect each time it is dropped for any reason. _________________

if they blocked all the ports, they probably set up VPN for outside connection. you can connect through VPN from your home computer. Your school may also have an application server which you can connect with ICAclient and run the programs on school computers. |
