Hello lxnay
I would be happy to give something back to the community, but i really can not afford mroe than 400 GB traffic per month, because the exceeding traffic is very expensive, or else we will have to find another solution .. perhaps you guys know how to implement something like a "download-gap" on apache2? .. okay thats a little bit OT ..
here is my e-mail adress for you lxnay
mana AT cyor DOT de
I'l try to do what i can.
but tell me, what is a fbsplash? frame--buffer-splash-image? *plonk* ..
thanks and greets to italy

Hey mana, how about setting up a torrent?
It could help keep your traffic well below that quota, in your much appreciated effort to help the community.
lxnay, if it can help, I have 2 AMD64 systems (opteron/asus sk8v, athlon64/msi K8T-FIS2R) one nvidia, one matrox.
The opteron is a spare waiting for RR4 v2.40 ...
If you need any testing, give a holler. The athlon64 is also available through vmware, if need be.
If it can help, let me know.
Do you have an installer?
L8r.
Thanks for all your great work. |

Ok, I'm fighting with fbsplash (bootsplash)... every modded kernel has problems with fbsplash, damn
In my opionion 2.40 will be the best LiveDVD on the planet (ehehe ). The only thing that i need is an installer.
Mana, bittorrent would be great too, if you can access and install apps on your server, think about it.
thank you all for your interest in AMD64... I only have to fight with udev (it segfault) and update some packages.... After 2.40 I promise a working AMD64 version _________________ http://www.sabayon.org |

gserack should work on an installer, but I'm wondering if is it possible to use the one from SimplyMEPIS 3.3. What do you think? _________________ http://www.sabayon.org |

lxnay, you got my mail? Please send me the thoughts and needs you have concerning design. I can't promise to do, whatever is needed, before you finished 2.40 "technicaly" ..
the first things i would do, or find somebody to do it:
-logo redesign (if there is a logo or a slogan)
-desktop wallpaper
-boot-splash image
-RR4-specific icons ?
a theme for gnome and/or KDE might follow ... some day... i dont know yet what it exactly needs to create a custom theme
ehm, and what i need to set up is a bit torrent tracker? Are rpm's out there?
bye then .. _________________ Mein Freund, der Baum, ist tot. Er starb im frühen Morgenrot. |

hurray, UPS notification is finaly there, tomorrow i want to set up the laptop .. no more messing arround with different nearly wrecked PC's ... so hurry my firends

thank you mana, I'm working hard on 2.40. I need only to fix this damned fbsplash, then, I'll start to upload.
Thank you very much You're the best (or beast?)
For now, I'd like to stick with the default kde theme. If you want to produce a cool wallpaper, go do it _________________ http://www.sabayon.org |

Mana, one of the easiest (not much learning/reading) ways to set up a torrent, is to use Azureus: http://azureus.sourceforge.net/
It does require java, but has a nice easy gui, and many controllable parameters.
Otherwise, other than bittorent's own default tracker script, there is BNBT: http://bnbt.depthstrike.com/
Good reading: Brian's BitTorrent FAQ and Guide http://btfaq.com/serve/cache/1.html
How-to create torrent: http://btfaq.com/serve/cache/56.html
External torrent publishing: http://www.open-bits.org/
Hope this helps.
Gserack & lxnay, maybe this could be usefull, as far as the installer goes.
the slax v5.0 (Slackware, KDE based mini-CD) installer gui script, based on Kommander, is an easy to follow xml file: http://homer.meso.com/crap/slax-install.kmdr
It looks like this: http://www.chikira.com/slaxinstaller.jpg
The same non gui, shell scripts, which I guess could be downloaded and run from the booted liveDVD:
http://homer.meso.com/crap/slax-install
http://homer.meso.com/crap/slax-liloconfig
Definitely get x86-32 v2.40 done (hopefully soon) before worrying about amd64. We will wait ....
Thanks again, to all involved. |

okay, i compiled bnbt-tracker, will do some test now and go on reading the links you gave me wonderer, thank you for that.
For this logo/design/wallpaper/whatever-thing please tell me, what does RR4 stands for? Is that the official name? Would you like your name be included or left out, lxnay?
btw: what is the time-shift between our locations? You are from italy, lxnay? and you others? Garret? Wonderer? _________________ Mein Freund, der Baum, ist tot. Er starb im frühen Morgenrot. |

Gserack, thank you for your time. I'm serious, if you need help, please let me know
2.40 will be ready in few days, I'm testing it. This afternoon I've debugged AMD64 version, I have to solve udev segfault in file /linuxrc, function "runUdev" in /usr/share/genkernel/generic/linuxrc might be the cause.
RR4 stands for Rescue Reiser 4, but this name is depracated and "RR4" is a fantastic word _________________ http://www.sabayon.org |

I should be able to see progress this weekend. I probably will have some issues for you that we will need to take care of in the DVD... (as it is, I think you are going to have to leave in the compiler suite and build tools. -- I've wasted too much damn time trying to rebuild them on the target machine)
I started looking into that MEPIS installer, it may yet be good.... although I had not looked at the source yet... the guy who wrote it is a tad defensive about it since some putz from kde.org *demanded* it about a year or so ago, before he was ready to release the source. Still, if it's on the MEPIS disc, that should be fine enough. If it isn't, well then I guess I'll ask the guy about it. It wasn't posted on his site anymore
Additionally, is this still based on 2004.x ? or have you managed to build off the 2005.0 stage yet. I only ask because I think somewhere there, they acutally changed the location of the emerge db...

If you can wait some more days, you will get the first LiveDVD with GCC and other stuff included

Yes Portage 2.0.51 with 2004.3 profile. I have to plan this work after 2.40. 2004.3 is still ok for now.
Any other question? _________________ http://www.sabayon.org |

Yeah, I'm still ok working with what I have, and when I get the one that does GCC it'll be even better :0

Yeah, the binary is there, but I was also looking for the source. It's possible it's on the disc, but I didn't see it the first time through. I'd be suprised if he left the source on the live cd

Oh, yeah, it's not a problem, just an observation. When the db moved I noticed, 'cause I rebuilt a box based on 2005.0 and NPTL this last week. I really couldn't care myself ... heh-heh _________________ See lxnay's RR4 Reiser4 enabled LiveCD Home.

I'm building the ISO right now. 1826MB. After that, my server (and lxnay.no-ip.org) goes down for an hour. I have to install 2 hardisk 5,25" rack units and start a system backup (this last operation will be done with the system "online").
I'm preparing for uploading 1826MB and then setting up (I have to decide it yet) a torrent.
I'm looking for a free tracker, anyone? _________________ http://www.sabayon.org |

Hey guys,
Mana, I am in california, so my time is GMT-7 ...
Thanks for trying with the torrent/tracker, and the web space ....
lxnay, that is great news.
Why not use the tracker site I posted above: http://www.open-bits.org/
They do it specifically for open source projects, free as far as I know. So does The Linux Mirror Project: http://www.tlm-project.org/
I don't know how popular you want your great project to be, but the more seeds/downloaders, the less traffic on your servers, and faster downloads for us the users ...
Were you able to include some sort of installer? Were any of the Slax 5.0 installer links, above usefull?
Thanks again for your great work. |

Interesting project. What version of reiser4progs does it have - the changelog says 1.03, but then "reiser4progs fixed" --> does that mean it has been updated to the latest version (1.04)? _________________ Interested in E17? Get Enlightened by reading the user guide. |

@zhitch: thank you, I will give it a try
@mana: I think that 400GB/Month on a 1.8GB ISO is quite good. 220 possible downloads, if you keep in mind that we will set up a torrent quickly...
Btw, I'm uploading... 80%... md5 is already there
@wonderer: thank you, I think that's cool. Sorry, I didn't see that link in the past threads. My project only wants to serve you, I don't want to compete with anyone. SLAX or other Installer will be in the next release, I promise it. Tomorrow I'll start to bug fix AMD64 LiveDVD.
@vrln: reiser4progs 1.04. Full changelog will follow soon.
I expect that someone will do nice screenshots _________________ http://www.sabayon.org |
