I want to install Gramps, but with as few Gnome dependencies as possible. If I let portage calculate the dependencies, I get
the following list:
Code: |
$ emerge -p gramps
These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

Im not familiar with Gnome, but to me there seems to be alot of unneccesary packages. For example Nautilus, gnomesu etc. If Im to compile Gramps in a KDE environment, shouldnt I ideally only need the correct gnomelibs? Gnome people, please enlighten me _________________ I'm not saying there should be capital punishment for stupidity, I'm saying why don't we take the warning labels off of everything, and let the problem take care of itself? |

Same here, Gramps looked interesting, but when I saw the list of required packages I refrained from installing it. No idea why it would need Nautilus, but since I'm running KDE only I decided not to install Gramps.
Still looking for something similar...

Looks like the "gnome-base/nautilus" dependency is on the gnome-python bindings rather than on gramps itself. There is no support in the ebuild for building gnome-python without nautilus. I don't know if this is possible or not.
It is not gramps fault. It is an issue with all gnome apps written in Python.

If you looking for something different try phpmyfamily. Runs on a webserver. Will import a gramps GECOM and has a lot of the same features.
