As soon as I've got it downloaded, and get it installed to the HD, I'll post a how-to right away, and hopefully get one of these installers to do the whole job.

Gserack, I'll wait your feedback, if you need something more, you only have to ask, I'll do that for you using an xdelta patch :-)

....debugging amd64 version.... I've heard some success stories with reiser4 and amd64, anyone?

;) we need some screenies. I don't have much time (debugging amd64 to solve udev problem) and I'm talking to openbits to set up a tracker for bittorrent version release...

I've looked at SLAX Installer. It's a Kommander script, I think that this piece of software can help us a lot. I've asked the authorization to the SLAX creator and he agreed with me, we can hack his script without problems.

One quick question.... where is this torrent at? I'm looking to nab this, but i don't want to send mana over his transfer limit. To do that would be downright rude and selfish of me 8) . I can pull about 400K/sec from BT on the machine i'm doing this on, but a straight download through ftp from germany for me runs at about ~50K/sec (i'm in America).

I'd sure appreciate a quick reply on this, as i'm really wanting to try Reiser4.

Cheerio!

As for the ppl who want to try reiser4:
U can move over to reiser4 without re-installing!!! The only thing u need is a reiser4 enabled kernel compiled, reiser4progs emerged and a spare partition with enough room to transfer all of your files to:

Quote:
    1. emerge -va reiser4progs
    2. emerge a reiser4 enabled kernel, configure it and compile it (check for reiser4 in filesystems and make sure the kernel boots!!! )
    3. Copy all of your files to the spare partition, this means /root and /home (20G should be enough for the most of us)
    4. modify grub or lilo to boot from the spare partition
    5. edit your fstab, so it reads the correct partitions (include your old partitions to /mnt/yourdirs, so u can copy your fs back when u rebooted)
    6. reboot with reiser4 kernel (i personnally used a modified gentoo-sources)
    7. use mkfs.reiser4 to create the new reiser4 fs on your old /root and /home partitions
    8. use mount to mount the new reiser4 partitions to /mnt/yourdirs
    9. copy back your filesystem and modify grub, lilo and fstab so it reads your old setup
    10. you are done!! reboot and watch the reiser4 at work...

Note: I didn't elaborate these steps as newbies shouldn't try this... More advanced users know what to do when reading this (i hope lol)

[Edit]: I'm on amd64 (emt64 to be exact) and i changed to reiser4 this week (using the above method) and did a emerge -evaD world twice to test reiser4... No problems or data loss or whatsoever!!!

whuuu there is quit some interesst in your DVD, 61.33 GB on April 10. I congratulate all of you that helped lxnay and of course i congratulate the master himself ;) .. but please, may someone take the task to setup a tracker and/or find a way to get a torrent out there? I will have an eye on the traffic. But I don't expect it to be more than these 61 GB a day .. unless the Message of a new RR4 spreads more.
I Will inform you, if i can, daly about the ongoings.

p.s.: I will try it out myself later, as i just finihsed setting up pure gentoo 2005.0

p.p.s. Whats that?? link not working? .. i will check it at once

Ciao assente,
prova a rimuovere le voci gentoo=nodevfs e devfs=nomount dalla linea di boot del grub.
try removing gentoo=nodevfs and devfs=nomount from you grub boot line

Fammi sapere ;) !

Oh lxnay that comes just in time ... Im sorry but i think you have to look arround for someone bigger than me

www.cyor.de/Screenshot.png

but hey .. there should be more than 200 users now with the dvd beeing able to seed ..

i will look arround for the unlimited-traffic hosting that i saw ...

have a nice day
mana

p.s. But my offer is still valid. Every month you can have my spare traffic that could be used to build up the network of seeders untill a better solution can be found.
edit: But from what i see in the news-history, your release cycles seems to be shorter .. hard working and diligently as you are :)

By copying the entire / (except /mnt/ - /proc - /sys) from LiveDVD?

We're working on it, we're building an installer.

AMD64 version, after some troubles (my USB HD case burned my external HD and udev segfaults), is doing some nice steps... Kernel updated to 2.6.11-reiser4-gentoo-r4 (Yes, REISER4) and udev segfault solved (read bugs.gentoo.org).

Working... cheers

Grub problem?

lxnay, is Grub on the disc compiled with support for Reiser4 ? I've been trying to put grub onto the hd, but it keeps moaning about it doens't know the format of the partition... Last time I used lilo, but I hate putzing around with the boot parameters, it's easier with grub :)

Gserack: U have to patch grub for reiser4...

Use this url to patch grub to recognise reiser4 ---->
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-309462-highlight-reiser4+grub.html

BUT: Why do u want reiser4 on /boot? It has no significant advantages to do that...8O
