Hi folks,

I have a very annoying problem here. our ISP uses PPPoA to make the ADSL connection, and many modems which claim to bridge the connection fall short when it comes to bridging PPPoA.
The result is that my Modem receives my fixed IP, and NATs me in a subnet, and I have no way of putting the fixed IP number as the actual ethernet address of my machine. Which I need to do very very badly.
So, I am looking for a modem which can give to the ethernet card the actual IP number given by the ISP, while using PPPoA authentication.
The main reason is that I have to set up a IPSec VPN, and it does not play well with NAT (actually if one side uses NAT Traversal it may work, but see below).
To make matters worse, the other side uses linksys routers and is not versed in linuxisms, so openswan/freeswan/openvpn is not an option, and our linksys routers are not particularly flexible.
summarizing: no software suggestions please, I want suggestions of MODEM MODELS which do this:
1)support PPPoA; and
2)bridge the connection so that I can configure my actual fixed IP address to my ethernet.
please, please, PLEASE, may the tux illuminate someone to give me the advice.
Thanks to all,
Brazilian Joe

SMC 7204 can do this, depending on what kind of telephone connection you have, the analogue type (BRA) can do full bridging, the ISDN type (BRB) can only do half bridge.
Both support DMZ for unfiltered internet.

Zyxel Prestige 650 series.
