|
|
When booting the universal cd I downloaded and properly checksummed from University of Indiana, it will NOT boot gentoo or gentoo-nofb kernels. Hangs with an "invalid compressed image format" error. smb and smb-nofb kernels work just fine. Note that this is not the basic cd, but the universal one.
It checksummed perfectly, so I don't know if UI has a bad .iso and then checksummed it themselves or what, but I'll dl the .iso from another mirror and boot it just to be sure.
UPDATE: A copy downloaded from another source and checksummed also exhibits this behavior, however only on my Thinkpad 380XD. The cd boots properly in other machines. _________________ The command is as follows... Enter into the enemy area. Rescue Super Joe while staying in touch with agents. We rely on you. |

Nothing, eh? No ideas?
I would be inclined to think it's the cdrom, but it boots pleanty of other bootables correctly, and all three isos I've burned have exhibited precisely the same problem. _________________ The command is as follows... Did you ever find a solution for this? I'm having the same problem.
I'm using the 2005.0 minimal cd at the moment. |

I have the same problem using the 2005.0 minimal cd, if I choose the "gentoo" kernel, my PC just does a restart, if I use gentoo-nofb I get the error message mentioned above. _________________ The Creature from Jekyll Island. |

Im curious how you burned your CD? What OS did you have on the machine used to burn it and how was the image burned? I know they give some pretty specific instructions on how to burn the image and I was worried it wasnt going to work for me because I wasnt sure if I had complied or not. If you burn it from a Linux machine you have to specify some stuff to burn it correctly. |

If your just asking that question for yourself, the best way to find out how if you burned properly is to try it! _________________
