Hi gentoo-ers!
I'm trying to install gentoo. Unfortunatly it isn't going very well yet, though I keep getting there some more. I have some problem with my pci card.
Code: | Hardware & Software:
- linksys wireless pci wmp54g, chipset broadcom 4306
- driver bcmwl5
- ndiswrapper (delivered with knoppix 3.8)
- this is the installation of Gentoo, so no network yet, until the card works
Situation:
- ndiswrapper is installed with no errors
- "iwconfig wlan0 key <key>" does change the key
- "iwconfig wlan0 essid <essid>" doesn't change the essid (not even with quotes
- "iwlist wlan0 scan" does show networks (not mine for I don't broadcast it)
Case:
The case is how to change my essid so it can connect to my acces point. I tried with a different live cd with no succes. I read the topics here but can't really find on with the solution includen. I know the card works for many people have it as I can see in the forums. Can anyone help me with what to do next?

Well thanks in advance for reading this. I hope someone knows some tips.

Do you have any indication that your card is working otherwise? Does everything function when you turn on ESSID broadcasting? Can you "see" any open networks in your area? |

iwconfig wirelessadapter doesnt always show the correct essid, anyway should be able to connect to your network.
after youre connected check for the essid again |

Okay. I turned on broadcasting, for now, and it shows in "iwlist wlan0 scan". When I bring up the wireless card it won't ping the AC nor is the ESSID or the Access point changed in the settings. Shouldn't the card scan for a dhcp address or something? Knoppix cd doesn't have the dhcpcd command.
What to do next? |

After trying a lot of things I'm going to install a different way. I'm moving the system downstairs and hooking to the AC by wire. Then I'll have a working 3com card during the installation. After the installation I'll install the wireless card. I think it'll be what easier due to the fact I'll have a working network connection. |

Oh I'm sorry.
I'm building now connected to the network by wire.
That installation is done.
Now I need to tune it. Tonight I'm posting to post on minor things. Then I'm going to install my wireless card. |

Well I installed the wireless card.
Unfortunatly dhcpcd wlan0 doesn't give it an ip adres. If I do an iwlist my AP will show up. I noticed that after dhcpcd wlan0 is moved from ifconfig to iwconfig. Also it has the same irq as my ethernet card. Don't know why...
[edit]
Should I remove the ethernet card from the kernel to get it to work? If I manually set the ip with ipconfig I can ping the AP but nothing beyond that or on the network. |
