Is anyone else experiencing a problem with notes. After typing the first line then hitting enter, typing a little of the second line, then backspace to the beginning of the line e17 crashes. Might see a little strange, but I was curious if others were having the same problem.

I've not once ever gotten notes to work. I'm pretty sure they're pre-working rudimentary...but someone can feel free to prove me wrong. Were they working for you in the past?

On my system (PIII/1GHz) it takes even less resources than e16. With clock, pager, dropshadow, temperature, battery, notes and engage running as modules. It is a tad heavy on the resources when zooming the icons on engage tho. But that's a fraction of a second.

jxn: make me an ebuild without xmms2 (I have that running already) :P I'm a clutz when it comes to making the ebuilds...

A'ight. I'll try to have a nice ebuild in the next 4 or 5 hours -- anonymous cvs will probabally take at least that long, anyway. (constructing it when I take breaks from my paper-writing)...I'll probably post my xmms2 ebuild for those who want/need it (although, it's gonna suck because scons doesn't give me any build information at all).

looks like tsaurbeck is still putting euphoria in as I write this (gotta love cvs builds!), so it might be even longer before it's usable because I can't test it until anonymous cvs syncs up...

sorry, didn't read this part because I was sure that engage (module) would be in e_modules.

hmm... no ebuild from me yet; I'm having problems with autogen and I'm not sure what exactly the deal is...perhaps tsaurbeck hasn't finished yet...

edit: This might be part of the problem:
Quote:
DEPENDENCIES
------------

Euphoria requires the following:

Evas
Ecore
Edje
Esmart
XMMS2
Ruby-EFL
Rake

lets see...we got ebuilds for 4 of those 7... so dependencies are a bit of a problem at this point. Ruby-EFL and Rake must be installed manually at this point -- I *do* have a working xmms2 ebuild, it seems, but until we have something for the ruby bindings and rake, there's really no reason to have an ebuild for euphoria.

edit #2: Actually, it looks like rake is in portage (we learn something new everyday, eh?)...so maybe I'll give it another shot.

edit #3: Looks like grabbing ruby efl from cvs and installing using rake and then separately setting up multipass is going to be a pain... I think I'll wait till finals are over before undertaking this.

*cough* then you didn't read the modules part either (which is in the beginning) as it's told there that it isn't there :-) It's now said in the build order too though.

jxn: yup, xmms2 is a pain to install (and as you've probably noticed ruby-efl is ~5 packages... that aren't in cvs either), personally I'm waiting for the xmms2 DR1 release to be out (perhaps it'll be added to portage) before trying it again. That's also why it isn't in the get-e guide

So far E17 feels a lot lighter than E16. I stopped using E16 a couple of years ago b/c it seemed so heavy. This feels more like fluxbox (but friendlier) to me than E. Very light.

That's not a flame (that's why there's the ":-)"). I didn't mean that in a bad way at all, sorry if you took it as a flame - it was just a friendly jab/joke :) I do agree though that it should be noted earlier too as it is a bit confusing that it isn't in e_modules, that's why I added it.

Anyone know if there are any plans to make E17 scriptable? The looks and theme engine of E17 with the flexibility of sawfish (can be scripted in lisp) would be the best wm for me. Especially if it's scriptable in python :)

why not benefit by the ease of use and flexibility of EFL :P that's why they developped their complete own libaries ;) python is slow...

Is it possible to make Engage (module) to draw over existing windows? Right now it only draws icons on the desktop, whenever there is a window on a desktop, Engage would draw icons in the back of the window.

The good news (tm), however, is that the first hints of window layers support have just crept into cvs, meaning (I would suspect, anyway) it shouldn't be too long before we can set engage "on top" or send other windows back/etc.

EFL isn't for scripting wm actions. And if it were, they could offer python bindings. And please quantify that python is slow instead of throwing out empty claims. Not that that's relevant anyway -- scripting wm actions doesn't need to be fast. I don't need a script setup to launch firefox or raise it if it's already open when I hit hyper+f to run at 2000 fps :)

Sawfish can be scripted in lisp and it's plenty fast. Just not nearly as good looking as E17 :)

Hi,

Something new in e_utils:
Quote:
Entangle is a simple menu editor for e17 menus. There are a few issues
with the UI, but it seems to work. If it erases your menus, well, you get
to keep both parts. Take a look at the README in src/bin/entangle to see
how it works.

looks promising! keep up the good work e17 developers!

Hi,

I am playing around a little bit with erss. So far it works. But I am wondering if I can change the size of the window, where erss displays the feeds, in any of the config files of erss? does anybody have a hint for me?

thanks

As far as I know, window size changing = impossible, more info at http://get-e.org/Documentation/User_Guide_pages/4.5.html
It's an abandoned project currently though and it doesn't work correctly with E17 as it uses fake transparency. The E17 way would be to have an RSS module.

Actually it's easy to resize erss (dunno about saving the size tho). Alt+middle click (or click left and right mouse button at once) and resize it. As for fake transparency... use e17setroot for background setting (which will set the background only for the apps using fake transparency) followed by enlightenmen_remote -bg-set the-same-background.edj (which will set the same background for the rest of e17).

yup but forcing fake transparency with e17setroot is completely experimental (and pretty much an ugly hack) and some applications may misbehave (eRSS is one of them last time I checked, its graphics are corrupted by default). Didn't know about the resizing, haven't used eRSS much - certainly something that needs to be added to the guide though, thanks :)

thanks for the replies. I did not know about the resize option (alt + middle mouse button). This is good enough for me, even if the size is not saved.

Are there any plans to for a RSS module?

Same exact errors with notes here. Be patient it'll get there. :D

Same here. E17 is less resource intensive than E16 was. Except when I turn on the flame and snow modules together, then it hogs the resources like crazy! But I don't use either of those modules anyway so it's no big deal. I have clock, dropshadow, temp, battery and ibar running on this laptop (P4-M 1.6G - 512MB RAM) and it is as snappy as it can be. 8)
