Printing...DeskJet 712C

Hi,
I have posted previously in the Installation section for some help with USB, and they fixed it so I figured I would try again here for my printer problem =).

I installed cups and gimp printing addition, i got to the Localhost page, i set up my parallel port correctly, i typed in the name, selected parallel port one...but alas, the Deskjet 712C is not among the printers listed in the menu! I tried both "HP New DeskJet" and "HP Deskjet", but neither worked when I tried to print a test page. Any advice is appreciated!

you probably need to download a PPD file for your printer. go to www.linuxprinting.org and read the docs there and download the printer driver for your printer.

You may test http://pnm2ppa.sf.net/ <-- driver specially designed for Win HP printers ;) It helps me (I have HP DJ 710C)

I went to that site...but it appears the pnm2ppa.ppd doesnt work with cups? I got it to locate the driver in the CUPS browser frontend thing, but it still wont print even after I followed the instructions. Do i need to install some new type of protocol?

My 710C works.
I have done the following:
emerge cups foomatic ghostscript pnm2ppa
vim /etc/pnm2ppa.conf (edited the version string!!!, & default papper size)
http://www.linuxprinting.org/show_driver.cgi?driver=pnm2ppa (click on generate PPD for your printer ;), not "generate old ppd"!)
put this file into /usr/share/cups/model/
/etc/init.d/cupsd start
http://localhost:631/ (add the paralal #1 whitch will be listed there, and selected HEWLET-PACKARD, not HP!, driver)
rc-update add cupsd default
done ;)

This worked perfectly! I can print now!
Now all I have left is samba to get working and then i am the big w.
