|
|
Hey Guys!!
I followed the ALSA-Guide http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/alsa-guide.xml getting started my sound device.
With the ALSA Sound Matrix and the command Code: | lspci | grep -i audio | I figured out I have to compile the intel8x0 driver.
But instead of doing well the process stops with the warning:
Quote: |
checking for which soundcards to compile driver for... configure: error: Unsupported soundcard intel8x0
|
Hopefully someone´s out there who´s able to help me.
I have an Acer TravelMate 292LMi
Thanx for your engagement |

Odd. Where is your kernel's .config... ? I get:
Code: | CONFIG_SND_INTEL8X0=y
CONFIG_SND_INTEL8X0M=y |
look under "make menuconfig" and see if you can find the 8x0 listed under alsa drivers |

Well, i searched in my .config for CONFIG_SND_INTEL8X0 and got:
Quote: |
#
# Advanced Linux Sound Architecture
#
# CONFIG_SND is not set
|
But i thought if i wanna compile the driver manuelly, like it is recommended in the manual, i have to switch off the alsa support in the kernel |

Ah sorry, I've never done things that way. Does the manual say anything about enabling individual drivers (when doing things that way)? |

Well, my sound did not work with the kernel-support. therefore, i wanna do it that way. Further, the guide recommends it coz the driver in the portage-tree is supposed to be the newer one. Quoted by the manual, not my own opinion |

It's more up to date, yes, but you have to re-emerge it every time you compile a new kernel... which I do often.
What problems did you have when you tried the built-in kernel way?
EDIT: upon reading the error more carefully it seems to be saying 8x0 is unsupported by the alsa-driver
That seems very strange, but I think you should go back to trying the kernel's built-in drivers. |
