Anybody have any info on the hackablility of this device?
I plan to get one of these but I can't decide whether to get the 500 or 700

I realise it is already is already running linux.
I was wondering what the feasibility of turning this device into a kind of in-car/portable media centre?
Would it be capable of decoding DivX/Xvid?
Would it be capable of hosting a USB harddisk? |

try to invetigate and run another linux distribution:
1)understand how this unit work:
how does it boot,the type of processor...
2)extract the old linux =>get the base system to your distribution or some info to know how to make a specific distrib form this device
3)build the new linux and make the unit work with your programs
mabe you could get some info because of the law about the licences...
linux us gnu...
there is a clause about distribution and source code if i remeber... |

This should get you started. Tom Tom used GPLed code - while initially they seemed to forget about the terms of the license they've since released the kernel including patches etc.
