Is DRI one of the menuconfig options? If so, would someone please point me to the section in which it is located?

Thanks...

Yes:

Code:
-> Device Drivers
  -> Character Drivers
    -> Direct Rendering Manager (XFree86 4.1.0 and higher DRI support)

Waning, use that option with carefully. If you are using an ATI card make it a module so that the newer ATI drivers can unload it, that is the only way I got my ATI Radeon 9800 Pro to get full speed and DRI support.

lotw...

Thanks for the words of warning... I, in fact, am about to try an ATI card that was given to me. Are there any other kernel, xorg, or grub things I should be aware of?

That is all that I found. So far my system works great and not sure why everyone is having problems with the ATI cards.
