Gentoo is great and all, but I am a gamer, and Gentoo isn't meeting my gaming needs.
When I get a second computer to have one dedicated to each OS, then I'll come back, but until then, I'll be going back to windows.
As soon as I find my windows CD, I may format. |

Moved from Off the Wall to Gentoo Chat since this is about Gentoo.
Finally someone who doesn't complain but simply state Gentoo isn't fulfilling some of his requirements. cheers. |

shouldn't we have like one main thread where everyone leaving Gentoo can post their last message on these forums? _________________ http://blog.chaostrophy.org |

Heh? So what, there's a game specific distro now? That is at once scary, pointless, and sad. |

Anyone that gets gentoo to play games is better off cutting off a birch branch and rapping it across their backs all day.
Games = Windows. Its just easier.
Use gentoo for what its good for, use windows for what its good for.. be a happy boy. |

I don't have enough collective hard drive space for a dual boot system. |

have you tried it? obviously not!
because over here ut2004, for example, runs noticably better than under xp! i'd say, it depends what kind of games you want to play.
so if you don't mind, i use my gentoo for whatever suits me! |

Yeah, 2004 was nice, but I want to play WoW without all the extra work and other such things. Ragnarok Online Private Servers. Lots of stuff. |

Seconded. I'm a happy Cedega user man, and native UT2004 is wonderful. Back to my homework now |

Games are a waste of time to me and I only play them when I have absolutely nothing better to do, or I play DDR via StepMania and a dance pad because it is actually physical and different. When I see people going back to Windows for games, I often see them as people who waste too much time. As far as I can see, I am right when I say that but obviously people will play games no matter how much of a time waster they are. So have fun with Windows and do not let it bite you in the arse too much. |

It just depends on what games you want to play. Between RTCW, Racer, Wesnoth and UT2004 I am more then happy. Plus cedega works great with most popular games, although I haven't used it for months now it is a good way to get some games where there is no native version. _________________ http://www.u2mike.com |

The only FPS that can catch my attention for about five minutes is Cube. Check it out people. BTW, AFAIK the current version in portage is very dated. |

Hard drives cost nothing these days! I've just bought 3 200Gb Western Digitals (3 Year warrenty ) and that set me back all of £200 including a PCI IDE adaptor!
I currently have 2 80Gb Western Digitals acting as a single 160Gb disk. As soon as I pick these new disks up from my parents (I dont order stuff to my flat, it goes missing if I do...) I'll be pulling one of the 80Gb and setting those 200Gbs into a 400Gb RAID5 array.
I need more disk space very badly, I have a >1Gb a week anime addiction... _________________ "Someday, he thought, it'll be mandatory that we all sell the McDonald's hamburger as well as buy it; we'll sell it back and forth to each other forever from our living rooms. Why do you need to quit if all you are going to do is get a new computer?

Roger that. Cedega can run most (75%) of my games, which isnt that much, but it still does. The only games that truly dont work on cedega are EA Sports 2002-2005, Need For Speed 5, and some older ones, even San Andreas is beginning to work for most people. |

No... you can't. For as often as I play games I actually really do use Windows more than Gentoo, so its actually rather pointless to run both. It is actually easier to have 2 seperate machines running one OS each. _________________ Desktop: ABit AN8, Athlon64 X2 4400+ 939 2.75GHz, 2x1GB Corsair XMS DDR400, 2x160GB SATA RAID-0, 2x20"W, Vista Ultimate x64
