Well, has anybody taken a shot at it yet?
Basicly its just the Netscape Directory server released under the MPL (Mozilla Public License). Shame the administration console isn't released as opensource yet, but according to the homepage of FDS ( http://directory.fedora.redhat.com/wiki/Main_Page ) it will be soon.
Sure looks promising to me, i'll give it a shot tonight (If i can free up some time ).

I would be very interested in seeing some benchmarks, especially in comparison with SUN DS.
Will try to find the time and make some, but if anyone has already done benches please let me know. |

This is a very feature-packed and relatively easy directory server to administer. Getting things like replication and SSL enabled and working are fairly trivial with the GUI and "wizard-like" interfaces. I got openldap installed and working on my system...then enabled SSL...then for some reason which I just cannot figure out it blows up starting up in SSL mode and I cannot figure it out. I use older versions of this at work and I've been waiting for June 1st for a while...now I just need to wait for someone to make it easier to me to install it. |

Wish I could tell you I took a crack at it and that its working wonderfully , but unfortunatly I haven't had the time to tinker with it yet .
I think i'll wait until the entire package is avaiable, with the Administrator GUI etc. Then I probably have more time to spare, and I can install the entire thing in one go. |

Count me in too to test anything about this.
I've been using OpenLDAP for like 2 years to centralize users, but I kinda find OpenLDAP really greasy and I'm always in a "set it and forget it" mode with it. It is something I have in my mind to master OpenLDAP, but if something better comes along (like FDS seems to be), I'm all hears.
So, like many, I don't have a second to spare on this on the short term, but I'll get back to this in a couple of weeks and give it a shot. _________________ (7 of 9) Installing star-trek/species-8.4.7.2::talax. |
