Does anyone else have problems making the forum realize that when a topic is clicked on it is read? I click on it, read it, and push Reload and it often still shows unread, even with no new replies. I have to "Mark whole forum as read" (once I read it, of course) to clear it.

I'm currently using the latest Mozilla (6/15) and have been having this problem for a few weeks... any ideas?

Er wasn't sure if I should bump this old thread our start a new one, but as my problem is pretty much the same...
Forums are still shown as containg unread messages, even if there are none, unless I specifically click 'mark all topics read'. Is this a problem/feature of the forums, are is there likely some configuration issue? I'm currently on IE6, but also have the same problem with firefox and konqueror.

Is the problem everywhere, or just with the 'Latest Site News' section?

Everywhere. And to clarify my previous post, I'm refering to the 'mark all topics read' at the top of each indivdual forum, not the one on the main page. It occured to me that this could be a design descion, but I don't remember it always being like this...

Have you tried closing all instances of the browser and clearing the cache? Make sure there aren't any hung browser processes either.

I see similar things from time to time, but not that consistent across all forums.

To answer your question directly: yes.
To be slightly more verbose: This has been hapening consistenly (as far as I can tell) for at least two weeks, across multiple computers, multiple sessions, even occuring to me day before yesterday when I logged into the forums for the first time, with a brand new install. (This is what made me wonder if it was a problem with the forums themselves.)
At any rate, this is hardly what I'd call a crucial issue, but if it's something I'm doing wrong, I'd like to fix it since it gets anoying having to remember to clear the new post indicator everytime.

I have this - just to clarify, topics are marked as read when I've opened them, but even if all the topics in a forum are marked read, on the forum index page they still appear with the unread image. The only way to make them appear as read is by clicking on the Mark All Posts Read link, like L.U. said.

You might clear out the gentoo.org cookies, I had one get corrupt or broke a few weeks ago and had a similar situation. It wasn't showing me as being here when I was viewing forums. Is your name listed up top when you are in a category?

Thanks for the suggestion, though I've tried it before with no luck. And as I said above, I've even had it happen to me the very fist time I came to the forums on a brand new install. Still gave it one more shot though, just to be 100%. No luck. :)
Oh and to answer your question, I don't always show up in the "browsing this forum" list right away, but my user name always pops up sooner or later.

I'm still getting this problem with the new forum version, but now with an extra twist. As before, even if all the posts in a forum are marked as read, the forum won't be marked read on the front page unless I click "Mark all topics read". The new twist, however, is that if there are several unread threads in a forum, and I read one that isn't the newest, the post above it will be marked read as well.

I've cleared my cache, removed my cookies and restarted Mozilla, and still this strange behaviour persists. Yet it doesn't seem to happen with any other phpBB forums I visit. I'm confused. :?

Edit: This happens to me on several different computers, on Gentoo and Windows, with Firefox, Mozilla 1.6, and different ISPs. :?

(I'm sorry my first post about the new version wasn't entirely positive; but I like it otherwise. :D)

I've done some more experimenting, and it doesn't seem to be just my account. I registered a new one to test, and I get the same behaviour there. (Maedhros2, with no posts, so it can be safely deleted.) It's incredibly frustrating, but yet it doesn't seem to be happening to anyone else?

Hmm.... now I think the opposite of this is happening - when browsing posts from the last 24 hrs, some posts are marked read that I know I haven't ever looked at.

For example, this thread is showing up as having been read, but I never even clicked on it, and it's been posted while I was logged in:

I've a similar problem,

Some 'unread' posts are marked as 'read' after I do a Refresh (F5) with my browser (firefox), that doesn't happend for all the unread posts, but 'sometimes' , randomly ...

I already cleared my cache !

regards.

is there any update on the problem of the thread above the one you're actually reading always getting marked read? this absolutely drives me nuts.

This is a known problem.

For a few days I observe that when I click on a topic, I view it and go out of it, one topic above is marked as read. For example:

Quote:
(unread) I need help!
(unread) I have a problem.
(unread) Help me.
(unread) Need help.
I view topic "Help me" and when I go out I have:
Quote:
(unread) I need help!
(read) I have a problem.
(read) Help me.
(unread) Need help.

I don't remember if it was the same always - as I said, I noticed it a few days ago. What's wrong?

for some reason when i read the forums, the orange thingy doesn't go away on the thread icon. after reading them they should go white, but sometimes they don't. i've also noticed that they can pop up orange for no reason as well. is this firefox's fault or fgo's?

please advise,

--bunder

edit: it appears that this thread is doing it too... i've read this thread, along with creating it... mark it read for crying out loud!!  :P

Am I the only one with this problem? When I click on topics, sometimes they do not register as read (yes, I do reload the page ;-)). Before this, it would not only mark the topic I read as read but also the topic above it (but I kinda liked that :D) Only seems to be a problem on the Gentoo Forums. Btw, I'm using Firefox on OSX.

EDIT: For example, I click the link to this thread multiple times... and it appears that I haven't "read" it!

EDIT2: The "Mark all topics as read" button works fine though.

Strange I can't reproduce this. For me it works fine. Using Firefox 1.5.0.4 here.
