I couldn't find such a thread, and although I guess almost everything is in portage, there are still some nice applications around that aren't in portage. I'll start with what I have compiled in /usr/local:

Motion: a motion detection system which can create videos from your webcam when something happens.

Gnomebaker: interesting gnome cdburning program

dlume: simple gtk2 addressbook program.

JAlbum: a java based, easy web photo gallery generator.

Of course, the question is: what does YOUR /usr/local/bin look like? :)

KDevelop 2.1.4, since Portage doesn't provide it anymore, and I didn't like KDevelop3. Further unrealircd and anope. I don't like them to be installed systemwide, so I downloaded and installed them manually to some user's dir. And that's all so far. =)

Big Brother

I needed a simple app for network monitoring, bb has a ton of plugins for monitoring integrating stuff like MRTG and monitoring service status.

If i wasnt in the middle of a major network upgrade I'd attempt to write an ebuild for it.
