i've got a bizarre problem and i can't think of where to start, so i'll just post here on the off chance that does something useful.
i had no problems with 2.6.12-rc6-love1, and similarly i was working fine with 2.6.12-love1. the other day i tried to get vmware-workstation 5 up and running. i would start vmware and after the main window would come up, the system would freeze for a second, and i'd get a reboot.
i put that aside, and today i tried to set up a networked printer with hp jet direct. when i came to print a test page, again, a freeze and a reboot.
switching back to rc6 makes the problem go away.
here's the diff between the two configs:

mkrisch, try a vanilla 2.6.12 and if it happens there too, it's not a fault of love-sources _________________ http://proaudio.tuxfamily.org/wiki - pro-audio software overlay

Works on 2.6.12.2.
I patched kernel manually... (~three warnings: some files are already patched)
AthlonXP 1.5GHz, 256MB RAM, KT400, GF4MX etc.

Is there any chance that ITE8212 RAID Driver will return to Love-Sources? |

wooot! the scsi one is in -mm too? interesting!
well then ppl have the choice between original ITE's (scsi) and Alan Cox' which handles stuff as ide harddisk (/dev/hde here) _________________ http://proaudio.tuxfamily.org/wiki - pro-audio software overlay

with 2.6.12-love-1 i got a lot of reboot too, i got no useful log to show, it just crash.
I'm checking my rams, hds [raid promise as ide], and graphic card [nvidia].
Normal [768M ram, all hds connected, nvidia driver -> X crash -- hds on promise-controller were used a lot, amule+xmms+emerge, hd on promise on next reboot was mounted read-only]
Tiny [512 ram, the newest block, all hds connected, nvidia driver -> X crash -- hds on promise-controller were used a lot, amule+xmms+emerge]
Small [512 ram, the newest block, all hds connected, nv driver -> seems stable -- hds on promise-controller were used a lot, amule+xmms+emerge]
i dont' know if it's a kernel fault or just my hardware going crazy ... _________________ Ma che c'hai là? Sulla spalla!!!! http://lascimmia.it/ |

The magic word here is nvidia driver it seems - notice that X crashes when you load that one? |

Yeah i'm quite sure that nvidia works bad with this kernel. But hds bad-mounted and crash happening only when hds are stressed moved my thoughts to others problems. But my Small-config keep being stable, case closed?
UPDATE: i switched to ck-sources and everything works fine.
There are some problems with my conf for ide/raid controllers in love-sources [via 8235 and promise 20276] ... i don't know what ... i used the same .config and made oldconfig _________________ Ma che c'hai là? Sulla spalla!!!! http://lascimmia.it/ |

Someone changed something in the vfat driver so now something like "every bit copied is synced and fat table updated", so it's very slow and even dangerous to the flash drive.
You should not use sync in /etc/fstab. If you use udev, which uses sync by default, you should avoid that behaviour by changing the file /usr/share/hal/fdi/90defaultpolicy/storage-policy.fdi. The next two lines must be changed from TRUE to FALSE:
<merge key="volume.policy.mount_option.sync" type="bool">false</merge>
<merge key="volume.policy.mount_option.sync" type="bool">false</merge>
And by the way, you now must unmount the flash drive before extracting it because of the no-sync thing. |

Then you're not on 2.6.12 or the filesystem of your flash drive is not vfat. |

So you're pointing out that ONLY on 2.6.12 it's slow with sync? because on 2.6.11 and earlier it was ofcourse a little slower then async but not _this_ slow.... :p _________________ MOBO: Maximus II Gene
