Yesterday, after restarting my Gentoo machine I discovered that, when I log in with normal user then it`s not possible to open any terminal apps [aterm, eterm, xterm ] ,they just quit after opening .
Maybe someone can help me with that problem.
Tnx. |

If I login as root and change to a normal user using "su", when I call "xterm", the message promt as below:
Code: |
Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: No protocol specified
xterm Xt error: Can't open display: :0.0
|
someone said that we should recompile the core with
Device Drivers --> Character Device -->Unix98 PTY suppurt
File Systems --> Pseudo filesSystems --> /dev/pts file system for Unix98 PTYs
but I can't find these two options when I config the core (2.6.12-gentoo-r4).
And also someone also said that this metod dosn't wrk.
please help or give some informations, thank you. |

If You want to open any graphical programs after going to root...then You probably have to run command:
xhost +localhost as normal user and then SU to root and run command:
export DISPLAY=:0.0 or something like that. And then try running the program.
Maybe it helps. |

I am having this same problem as well. I did an emerge -u world after comming back after two months, and X terms just stopped opening my user account. Another post seemed to indicate that deleting the user and creating a new one would solve the problem, it didn't work for me, and now i am stuck in my root account for the time being to acess terminals
Anyone know how to fix this? |

Anyone try "revdep-rebuild" to see if there are any broken libs?
