|
|
I can't emerge anything because I've run out of temp space in /var/tmp/portage. I know I can change the location of the temp directory with PORTAGE_TMPDIR, but I don't have any place with more space than /var/tmp.
Can I safely delete everything in this directory, assuming I'm not emerging a package at the same time? There are sub-directories for packages I no longer have installed. |

Portage re-creates directories as needed; you may safely delete /var/tmp/portage. |

On the box it said it was designed for Win XP or better, so why won't it work with Linux? |

You can also delete the downloaded packages in /usr/portage/distfiles
Only do this if you have a fast internet connection, because you'll have to redownload every package that you'll need in the future.
If you don't have a fast internet connection, I suggest burning the distfiles on a CD. |
