Hi, I'm installing Gentoo for the first time and everything is going fine so far except for one thing. When I try to 'emerge kde' my system freezes up completely on the qt-3.x.x.x build. Total lockup. Virtual console switching is dead. Ctrl-Alt-Delete does nothing. Even the front power button is dead. I have not had any other build problems (I built everything from stage1) and XFree86 itself built fine. Here is my system:
MSI 694D-Raid mainboard (onboard PDC20265)
2 X Celeron 400MHz CPUs
1GB RAM (4 x 256MB PC100)
Floppy Drive
ATAPI CD-ROM on IDE0 (hda)
2 X WD AC21600 HD on IDE1 (hdc, hdd) - UNUSED
1 X Quantum Fireball Pro AS 30.0 on IDE2 (hde)+
1 X Quantum Fireball Pro LM30 on IDE3 (hdg) in a RAID1 Array
(/, /boot, /usr, etc.)
2 X FT66 IDE RAID cards with:
- 2 X Seagate ST34321A 4.3 GB Drives (hdi,hdk) (No Array, UNUSED)
- 2 X Seagate ST51230A 1.2 GB Drives (hdm,hdo)(RAID1 Array, SWAP)
Adaptec PCI SCSI card 78xx series - No drives attached for now.
LNE100TX "tulip" 10/100 card.
ATI Mach64 PCI video card.
I have the system installed fine and running off of /dev/ataraid/disc0
for system partitions and /dev/ataraid/disc1 for swap. I had to modify pdcraid.c slightly to extend the search to include hdo, but that seems to work fine. This freeze has happened about five times now regardless of whether I emerge full kde or just qt3. The last two times it froze up on qgplugin.cpp.
Anyone have any thoughts on what might be causing this?
Thanks,
Bob |
