I've registered with Gentoo forums twice (I had a change of heart about my username!) and have never posted anything using the other identity. I don't suppose it is doing much harm, but is there anyway for me to remove my unused identity?

AFAIK phpbb doesn't have an option for deleting your account.

In your case, I just would msg Nitro and tell him the account name/password (to ensure that you are the owner - perhaps change the password to something senseless before if you are using the pass for other services as well)

Thanks, I've just msg'd him (her?) using the identity I want deleted, which ought to be identification enough, but I mentioned password etc. too. I even "forgot" my password and got a new one my email to make it completely meaningless!

Periodically, I'll be running a mysql script that will delete all inactive user accounts. There are a lot of people who think they're being clever and enter a fake email address when registering, only to discover that they can't activate their account now since the activation link gets sent to their email account.

To the overly-paranoid folks out there; I hate spam as much or more than you do. We don't sell, give out, think about giving out or associate with people who give out email addresses. Spammers aren't going to get your email address from us. (unless you do something stupid like post it as part of your sig or enter it for the world to see in your profile)

Ran this for the first time tonight -- 173 inactive user accounts are now toast.

hehe that's quite much...How many days need someone not to be logged in in order to be deleted ? 30 ?

And about those fake-mails that acivation thing (and re-active when changing email) ist the best way to not have fake mail addresses (although you could register my-fake-mail@hotmail.com and let all forum services in the world etc. run with this box and then you don't need to carry about it :P )

There is no set number. So far, we haven't deleted any active user accounts. The forums are, after all, only three months old.

I imagine at some point we'll go in and cull out all the old accounts that people haven't used in a while, but that threshold will likely be higher than 30 days -- probably more like 6 months.

How do I delete my forum account? I'm not really using it and I've moved to greener pastures.

Thanks!

I suppose we can do this if you want. We've never had a request to do this before. Your posts would be preserved under your username, but as an anonymous account. If you are certain that this is what you want we can do it. However, we would not be able to give your account back to you since there would be no record of who you are. May I ask what the "greener pastures" are that you alluded to?

Delete unused forum registration? isn't exactly the same, but it is similar.

I just re-registered this account, for the previous one was inactive, for the email address is from a filtered mail server.

I want to change that email, but it's impossible without logged in, :(

Could you please tell me who I should contact to solve this problem?

Thanks in advance.

Hi cougar,

If you scroll down to the end of the page there should be an email for nitro@gentoo.org. I think that is someone you could contact.

What account did you need to have fixed? An admin can correct your email address issues without you needing to make a new account. Please feel free to email any of the admins and we'll take care of it if you can't log in or fix an existing account.
