|
|
Hi,
I had a cd-rom reader, identified in fstab as follows
Code: |
/devcdroms/cdrom0 /mnt/cdrom noauto,user 0 0 |
I bought a dvd burner (ide) and installed it. I installed the burner as secondary master and the cd as secondary slave, then I I tested it in Windows and it works, but I don't know how to install it in Gentoo.
Should I create a second fstab entry ?
Moreover, when I try and mount a cd, I get an error message there is no medium in the device : I think Gentoo only sees the burner now...
Any help ?
Thanks. |

ats2,
You should create a new mount point in /mnt, say /mnt/dvd and an additional entry in /etc/fstab, pointing to it.
This will make mounting things for reading easy.
For burning, you need a new application. I like xcdroast but KDE users are reputed to like k3b.
You can also use packet writing on CD-RW and DVD+RW media so they behave like ordinary (but slow) writable drives.
If your new drive is not seen at all, do you have the Primary/Slave jumpers set properly on both drives ?
Should you have any doubts, unplug the IDE cable from one at a time.
Do you always have a /dev/hdc or /dev/hdd ? _________________ Regards,

ats2,
SCSI emulation is not required in 2.6 but you can still use it if you want. _________________ Regards,
