What driver for dri configuration?

I'm trying to have my dri running . I emerged the xorg-x11.
I followed the : http://www.gentoo.org/doc/fr/dri-howto.xml and i 'm just hesitating in the xorg.conf.
What drivers should i use if i have a ATI ALL IN WONDER128 : ie chipset Ati Rage 128.
Should i put: ati , r128 or fglrx ?

Im not an ati user, but I think that fglrx is the correct one.

I'm pretty sure you need the r128 driver, but the best bet is to boot something like knoppix and see how the xserver was configured for your system.

Also, I had a mobile rage 128 card, but couldn't get dri to work because I didn't have enough vram to run it at the resolution/bit depth I wanted (1400 x 1050, 24 bpp with 8 Mb vram). Just something to be aware of.

you're right, i need the r128 one.
But i have other problems. I completed the installation. At reboot, X failed to start. I think i have done everything said in the how to but didnt work. For sure, i have made some mistake somewhere.
Do you know a script for dri for rage128 users?
'Cause i'm fed up with it, it has been 3 days through this installation.

Maybe you could post your xorg.conf, and the relevant sections of your kernel config?

As i said i have followed the tutos, ans i want to run: fglrxconfig. THe problem is i got a rage 128 and this card is not on the list below:

You don't need fglrx for this card, in fact I doubt those drivers even support it. The in-kernel dri drivers should work fine for you.

In "Device Drivers -> Character Devices", make sure you have the following enabled (as modules unless you have any particular reason to do otherwise);
/dev/agpgart (AGP Support)
Your motherboard's agp support
Direct Rendering Manager (XFree86 4.1.0 and higher DRI support)
ATI Rage 128

That should be enough.
Your current xorg.conf looks fine.

So i ve just made my kernel modifications as you told :
AGP Support . DRM . ATI Rage128 all as modules.

But when i restart computer i got this message error for X:

(EE) R128(o): No Valid Modes found. Symbol XF86 Force HH Cursor from module /usr/lib/modules/drivers/r128-dr.vo.

So X cant start. What should i do to correct it?

You need to uncomment the following in the xorg generated config to get dri working, but I don't see while this would prevent x from starting;

#    Load       "glx"

#    Load       "glx"

 ~ ~ ~

# Section "DRI"
#    Mode 0666
# EndSection


By the way, if the x-free config is working for you, then there is no reason you can't use it.

Run "glxinfo | grep rendering" while running that config file to see if you have dri working with it.

I uncommented the required modules. But my question is: why cant i start with the new generated config file. For my part i think it's missing this section:

Section "ServerLayout"
   Identifier     "Default Layout"
   Screen      0  "Screen0" 0 0
   InputDevice    "Mouse0" "CorePointer"
   InputDevice    "Keyboard0" "CoreKeyboard"
EndSection


Should i add this section in my new generated xorg.conf?

My second question is why is not DRI enabled (i've run glxinfo) in my first backuped xorg.conf?
