|
|
Hi,
after I just recently installed gentoo with not much stuff installed, I ended up with usinge 11GB of the 12GB root partition.
As a GUI I use xfce4, then the usual stuff, firefox, thunderbird, k3b, kile, some editors.
That's about it, doesen't this sound a little stragen considering this stuff takes 11GB?

Whenever I am trying to solve disk space usage problems I find the filelight utility invaluble. It will show just where that disk space is being used up. |

filelight shows me a completely different situation...
and if I do a "du -chxs ./.* I get:
Code: |
7.3M ./bin
4.0K ./boot
788K ./dev
6.5M ./etc
1.7G ./home
25M ./lib
8.0K ./mnt
274M ./opt
du: `./proc/13113/task': No such file or directory
du: `./proc/13113/fd': No such file or directory
898M ./proc
1.7M ./root
6.5M ./sbin
88M ./stage3-x86-2005.1.tar.bz2
0 ./sys
600K ./tmp
2.1G ./usr
160M ./var
5.3G total |
but a df -h gets me this:
Code: | monolith / # df -h
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/hdf5 12G 10G 1.3G 89% /
udev 506M 788K 505M 1% /dev
/dev/hda1 19G 33M 18G 1% /mnt/hda1
/dev/hde6 84G 272K 84G 1% /mnt/hde6
/dev/hde7 84G 272K 84G 1% /mnt/hde7
/dev/hdf2 101G 98G 3.7G 97% /mnt/hdf2
/dev/hdf6 76G 65G 11G 86% /mnt/hdf6
/dev/hdf1 2.0G 1.7G 309M 85% /home
shm 506M 0 506M 0% /dev/shm |
maybe I misinterpret these numbers.
