my /etc/fstab is screwed up for the /home partion.
I have
/dev/hda5 /home ext3 noatime 0 1
But when I log into kde it tells me the /home partion doesn't exist or it can't be written to. |

Looks like your permissions to the mounted partition are no good. You can test this from the terminal. In your fstab, chage Your line to:
Quote: | /dev/hda5 /home ext3 noatime,user,uid=1000, gid=100 0 1 |
Thats assuming only your primary user will use the drive.
Quote: | /dev/hda5 /home ext3 noatime,user,users 0 1
|
may work |

I tried that and it still won't work. It says it can't write to $HOME and then it complains about the kserver
Also in the middle of this its complaininga bout the dcopserver? What should I do? It took me 3 days to install gentoo and now I can't even login with kde. |

Moved from Installing Gentoo to Other Things Gentoo.
Not an installing Gentoo problem |

Comment out the part in your fstab where it mounts your home directory to another disk.
You may have added your user without mounting the other disk. Then it would have created the important files in the actual folder, not in the mountpoint.
Also unmount your extra drive and try adding another user.
(Dont blame gentoo, when you get it up and running, it will be worth every second of your install)
