Ok I've been having this problem for a couple months now and don't know where else to turn. I run an old p3 that acts as a router/server for my main machine. About 2 months ago I started to notice a slowdown on my network. I don't recall changing anything drastic on my server or this box that might have caused some sort of problem. Overall internet browsing slowed down, looking at images on my fileserve was like looking at images from an outside source, sometimes slower. SCP and SFTP transfers were really slow between the two computers. Somehow I discovered that unplugging and replugging in the crossover cable connecting the two would solve the problem for 4-9 hours. After changing some hardware on the server like the cable, NIC, CPU I'm still having the problem. I was in windows for the first time in ages just now checking something and I noticed my network speed was just fine. Web browsing and browsing images on my fileserve were fast like it should be. Went back to Gentoo, same old problem. It's the most bizare thing I've ever come accross, and so far the only soultion I've found for Gentoo is unplugging the cable and replugging it back in. I was sure it was something in the router, but its working just fine in windows... I'm at a loss, any ideas or suggestions would be most helpful. _________________ registered Linux user #338885

My fileserver got rebooted yesterday night (maybe power failture) after working fine in about a mounth. After that i goes fast to browse folders on the server but when i tried to open something it goes really slow. A text dokuemnt takes about a minute to open!
I´m looking forward to see the answers here ![Smile :)](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |

Well I did a fresh install on a spare partition and so far my network connectivity is fast like it should be. I can't figure out what but something on my previous install was bogging things down. If I ever figure it out I'll post it here. _________________ registered Linux user #338885
