This is a step I don't want to do:

However, if you want to do it:
cd /usr/kde/3.4/share/config/kdm
Open the config file kdmrc
On line 246, set AllowRootLogin=true
That should do you good. Hopefully. |
Fully agree to the concept of not GUI-ing as root.
But some things (eg printer / cups configuration) are done more easily within KDE - and that is what kdesu or the administrator mode is good for. It works perfectly on one Gentoo machine I have (originally set up in January, recently completely updated).
Another one that I just built from the scratch with 2005-1 will not allow me to get into administrator mode in kde - not even to su in konsole (error: password wrong. A little odd I'd say).
Does somebody have an idea how to remove this restriction?
Thanks,
Rainer

Most of the times when you're experiencing this kind of error the solution is to add your user to the wheel group. Only members of this group are "allowed" to switch to root (even with terminal su command). Try this, may be that does the job for you as well. |
