I now have a gcc3.1 system with gnome2 up and running. One
lingering problem is that I can't 'su' to root from my normal
user status. After reading the 'man su' and 'man suauth' pages
I added myself to /etc/suauth as root:me:[all permutations]
but still no luck, either from the console login or from a gdm/gnome
session. 'man -k security' and so on haven't turned up any
relevant docs, so any suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks for the answer, and thanks for pointing out
the docs. I will say, though, that the "Search" feature
on Gentoo Forums did not find those docs, or at least
not in the first hour or so of reading the "su root"
and "su AND root" results.
I figured that it had been brought up, but I just couldn't
find it. The FAQ, though, is really great, and I'm vetting
that now ... |

I know how you feel, I have the same issues when I do searches for something that SHOULD be there but it doesn't find it. |
