I've just installed gentoo on a friends computer and used genkernel, and I liked it. Now I'm thinking of moving to genkernel on my main computer. Some wonderings:

* The kernel I'm running now is OK and I would like that config as a base for the genkernel config, is that possible/sane?
* Something I should consider before I do this move?
* What exactly does "genkernel --menuconfig all" do? Is it the same as "make menuconfig; make; make modules; make modules_install"?
* Is there a guide on migrating to genkernel?

Why would you want to switch to genkernel?? I think a system is better without it. That way, you can tweak the kernel as you wish. No??

I've never used genkernel but may I suggest that you simply compile the kernel with it keeping your old config and kernel image on /boot. Modify your grub.conf to be able to boot on both and just see what genkernel does? That way, you won't be in trouble if anything bad happens.

Yeah, I got that far too. I was thinking maybe there was more stuff to think about _before_ that.

I was quite fond of gentoo when I first installed it about two years ago, but now I don't have as much time as I had back then, and I was thinking of moving to something a little bit more JustWorks (tm). But I don't want to give up on gentoo. I like gentoo.
