Are you sure about that?
I tried leaving ~amd64 in there and get told ~x86 is blocking me. Which it should, being an athlon CPU.
Is there a list of what else I need to unmask? So far I apparently need to unmask akode and poppler. Before I end up going thru package by package, has anyone gone thru this for kde3.5 yet on x86?
thanks,

I just put the kde-base beta1 ebuilds in gentopia. You can find more info at http://gentopia.gentooexperimental.org.
They're all keyworded ~x86 to make it easier for most users here. Any other architectures such as ~ppc and ~sparc
will need to use the package.keywords trick still. |

I tried to use these ebuilds, but as far as I can tell all the patches weren't copied over for each ebuild. As a result, lots of packages can't be installed until you supply the patches from the main portage tree. I'm guessing you just forgot to grab those too?

Yah, I did miss some, but it's not all that obvious which ones.
If you post a list here I'll fix um. |

(some minutes later...)
I fixed 2 missing ones in arts, and that's all that I can tell as far as missing patches. |

I think that some of the patches listed with this grep are still missing:
Code: | grep -R 'PATCHES' /usr/local/gentopia/kde-base |
For instance, the 'kicker' ebuild is still missing patches it would seem. |

Maybe the title should be changed to differentiate between the beta1 ebuilds in portage and the gentopia beta1 ebuilds to avoid any confusion. |

EDIT: Disregard please. I now suspect my problem was due to USE="-pam"
It doesn't finish loading... the second icon just keeps flashing until the splash goes away. Then I'm left with only a black screen and the mouse.
EDIT: slash->splash

I'm having great trouble trying to compile dbus.
I've read that I should get it using CVS, but the Project Utopia thread is about a year old, and it seems as though users have been able to compile it without needing to do this.
I'm running x86, and I'm also using the gentopia ebuilds for KDE-3.5_beta1.
any help would be much appreciated - here's the error output I get when trying to emerge dbus-0.36.2

Well, I've been trying KDE 3.5b1 on my SGI Indigo2 Impact ... and so far, I'm impressed.
My Indigo2 runs Gentoo/MIPS with an n32 userland, which is usually highly unstable. (Let's put it this way ... us MIPS devs don't officially support it, it's that unstable)
KDE 3.3.2 used to run just fine, until an upgrade of glibc broke Konqueror -- it then started crashing when I changed URLs (e.g. clicking links, typing new address, etc)
KDE 3.4.1 was highly unstable, apps used to crash rather than close properly... Konqueror was totally broken, b0rking before loading a page.
KDE 3.5b1 has been rock solid. It compiled fine, right off the bat, and runs just fine.
I've only got kdelibs, kdebase, kde-i18n (with the UK English locale) and kdegames installed at present, but it's slowly chewing away at the rest. (Hey, 2 days compiling isn't bad for a 64-bit RISC machine running at 195MHz) So we'll probably be marking the ebuilds ~mips shortly. _________________ Stuart Longland (a.k.a Redhatter, VK4MSL)

Hmm.. that's odd.. I assume that's the package.masked version, compiles fine here. What's your qt version? I'm using 3.3.4-r8 here. |

yup, using 3.3.4-r8 here too.
I'm sure it'll be something painfully obvious.. |

Kicker and kdepim-kresources are two with "missing" patches that I've found. Thanks for a good job Chris |

Ok, I've uploaded the last of the missing patches. You all should be clear against that now.
btw, all packages compile for me now (and by all I mean everything beta1 in /usr/portage/kde-base/) |

Ok, this is going to be REALLY long.. but here we go. The keys are as follows:
cnt = cannot test. In this case I simply don't have the hardware/software to test it (or I don't want to install the software ;p)
tcn = test case needed. In this case I have no clue whatsoever on how to test this package
? = haven't had a chance to test it yet
good = take a guess ;p

Is it just me or... ?
The taskbar properties tab is gone from kcrontrol->desktop->panels, now there is only arrangement, hiding, menus and appearance. But no taskbar properties. If I try to open the module directly from the taskbar, by clicking in the arrow at the left side of the taskbar applet and selecting "Configure Taskbar" then the Arrangement tab of the panel is opened.
If Im not becoming mad, in alpha1 that was there, that is why I post this in this thread. I wanted to open it to change the settings from transparent to elegant. Since my taskbar now is white and the characters seems too bold and too grey over that colour. I can alway edit my config by hand thou...... |

kcontrol > desktop > taskbar
It's below panels and above window behavior.
It's also available within the right click "configure panel" option from the panel. _________________ #gentoo-kde on freenode |

The problem is that it "was" The modules, if present, are put as tabs, and as menu options, and also in the kcontrol tree menu and in the kioslave, they all are the same module, so if it is not in one place, it isnt in any of the other, which is my case.
The question is: why everyone using beta1 do, indeed, has that module installed and mine isnt there??? I will try to reinstall kicker and then kcontrol again.... Ill tell you if it does any change. Thanks for the response.
EDIT: I know that this is not user config related. But still, I tried a clean user account. Same problem. Still compiling kicker...
EDIT2: Compiling kicker did nothing. And I doubt that recompilation of kcontrol will help anything. So, the more probable solution that I will go with is to draw that tab into my screen with a ball-pen so I dont miss it.
LAST EDIT: I was wrong, reemerging kcontrol did it. Dunno what can have happened, but is solved. |

Depends on what you want and what computer you are doing it on. If you want KDE 3.5 beta and haven't got a AMD64 machine then it's less hassle to use gentopia. Otherwise use gentoo's portage. |

Everything worked fine for me. Except that the "Terminal-Emulation" button don't work.
When i click it, nothing happens. Anyone knows how to fix that? |

Ok, quick question: do I still need to build kdelibs with +arts to get sound notifications? My soundcard has hardware mixing so no software mixing, thanks. |
