While trying to upgrade CVS emerge wanted to upgrade pam to 0.78-r2. This failed and other posts on this board seemed to suggest downgrading to pam-0.77 would be ok. So I did that and now I cant su to any user from my normal user while in X11. But I can su if Im on the console. This makes me very confused.
Whilst in X11:
Code:

~ $ su
Password:
su: Error in service module
Sorry.

Or
Code:

~ $ su userx
Password:
su: Error in service module
Sorry.

But I can do this fine on the console. Anyone have any ideas?

Try 'su -' instead of just 'su'. I had a similar problem, and this fixed it.

'su -' doesnt work either. Funny thing is if I ssh to localhost I can su, even when in X11. Its only when Im in regular X11 that I cannot su.
