trying to emerge gaim gives...
[code]
libtool: link: cannot find the library `/usr/lib64/libpangocairo-1.0.la'
make[3]: *** [gaim] Error 1
make[3]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/gaim-1.5.0/work/gaim-1.5.0/src'
make[2]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[2]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/gaim-1.5.0/work/gaim-1.5.0/src'
make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/gaim-1.5.0/work/gaim-1.5.0'
make: *** [all] Error 2
/code]
however pango AND cairo are already installed.
locate libpangocairo finds nothing (yes, i remembered to updatedb)
It seems the gaim ebuild is missing a dependancy.
but i cannot find what i need to emerge to install this dependancy, any idea's ???
Gentoo 2005.1 Amd64 Athllon 3400+ Gnome 2.10 (all normal amd64, nothing unmasked, no ~amd64 keywords.

The file /usr/lib/libpangocairo-1.0.la comes from the pango package.
I have it and I have pango-1.10.1. But I'm on ~x86 and are using GNOME 2.12.
Try rebuilding pango and see if it creates the file, maybe you installed cairo after pango. Otherwise you might need a newer version of pango that uses pango, and then, as you say, something with the deps are wrong I guess. |

gnome 2.12 and related packages (such as pango 1.10 are hard pasked under AMD64.
in a previouse install last week i un-masked gnome 2.12. It compiled, but frequently crashed, so i have gone pack to gnome 2.10.
pango is version 1.8, later versions require an unmask which breaks gnome
However... gaim 1.5 is not masked, and is inportage as stable Amd64.. so i should not have to unmask any dependancy's for this to work.
i thought about trying an earlyer version of gaim, but only version 1.5 is in /usr/portage/ so downgrading does not seem ot be an option.
If nothing else works, i may have to try the pre-compiled autopackage from gaim.sf.net
Thanks for replying, but in my case, Gnome 2.12 is hard masked, and is far to un-stable on amd64.
Any more idea's anyone ??? |

Did you rebuild the version of pango you have? |

FIXED thanks.
Dont ask me hw this happened, but it seems i had a very old version of pango installed simultaniusly (slot) which was blocking later versions.
i unmerged pango completely, along with cairo, and attempted a re-compile with ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~amd64".
Pango 1.10-1 was installed, and gaim compiled sucessfully. (Also i added glitz to my use flags)
This may have been a side effect from downgrading from gnome 2.12. |
