nvidia-settings is not part of nvidia-kernel, it is a separte package.
I'd never even seen it mentioned but some one on a FlighGear forum brought it to my attention.
Nice GUI for tweeking a few hardware settings anisotropic scatter which improves textures.
Just passing it on since appartently a lot of ppl dont know it exists.
emerge nvidia-settings && nvidia-settings

Hi,
when installing the media-video/nvidia-glx package it produces a note about that ...
Code: | You may also be interested in media-video/nvidia-settings |
unfortunately many people just oversee these notes after the end of emerges ... they are often totally useless as they are often not seen at all (e.g. when doing a world update).
Many questions about broken python stuff appeared on the forum since the stabilizing of Python 2.4. Most of them just ran "emerge -Du world" (or something similar) and didnt notice at all that there was a warning message which told them to run "python-updater" to fix all broken python scripts and libraries. Portage is actually really bad at handling stuff like this. The devs must really do something about that problem. Some really bad things can happen if the users oversee these messages.

It's being worked on rojaro, portage 2.1 should have a built in "show me the important stuff"-feature, also there are plenty of threads on here with tips on redirecting those types of messages to somewhere useful (i.e. NOT /dev/null ).
