Might want to take a look at cfdisk. Take a peek at this post: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=16

Have you considered....Partition Magic? It's an OS-independent program since it can boot the computer using its own floppy. (or CD-ROM, I believe)

If you can't manage to use fdisk then you should be running Mandrake not Gentoo..

Comes with a nice graphical util for resizing your partitions and everything

I'm not a big fdisk fan either, so I cheated when I installed Gentoo :)

I used to run Mandrake, and have an 8.1 Powerpack lying around, so I just use the bootable Disc 1 and get to the point in the expert install to where you can use their graphical partition manager. I left them without a file system because I wanted to use EXT3 on / and /boot, which MDK 8.1 doesn't have. After I created the partitions I wanted and wrote the table, I rebooted my machine and stuck the Gentoo disc in. I turned the swap partition on and created the file system on / and /boot.

That made it a lot easier :)

I've actually never used any fdisk utilities whatsoever (DOS or Linux). When I was putting my computer together I was pointed to Ranish Partition Manager (www.ranish.com). It has a pretty decent menu interface, and a little "wizard" type thing where you select the fs type and how big you want it to be and it selects how many sectors and cyllinders and all that in order to get it as close to your desired size as possible. Overall it's pretty easy if you glance over the docs there.

The problem is it's DOS based, so you'd need to make a boot disk with partman on it in order to partition your machine. I guess this makes it a little less than desirable for a lot of the people here.
